Any planet named after a Disney character cannot be taken seriously.

There is a very large ring of large rocks called the Kuiper Belt that orbits the Sun, but out even further than Pluto. They range in size from very small to even bigger than Pluto. It's a little bit like the asteroid belt.
Because Pluto has such an unusual orbit, they started thinking that it was not really a planet, but a Kuiper Belt Object (KBO).
And then they started finding other KBO's that were even bigger than Pluto, so the question started coming up if we should have to name each one of them and it would be a planet, too. Under some of the rules that were proposed, we would have anywhere up to 50 planets orbiting the sun.
But they used common sense and just called Pluto a KBO.
But then they felt guilty and came up with "dwarf planet", which doesn't really mean anything at all, but it is supposed to make nostalgic people feel better.

Because astronomers have their heads in their as ses and think it's Uranus.

They think they will lose funding for projects if there are too many planets because they think the "average Joe" is to stupid to care if there are 50 planets. They don't live in the real world. Maybe if they did then they'd realize that having 31 flavors doen't seem to hurt Baskin Robbins.

Seriously, astronomers felt they had to have a rule by which to judge objects as planets... then they go and list the eight "classical planets" specifically, so that they don't have to explain how they also fail the nonsense rule they made up. Mostly I think they are just Jealous of Mike Brown and company who keep discovering large objects out past Pluto and don't want to give him credit for discovering several planets.

Yep, those short sighted nitwits put the as s back into astronomer.
