It is a Masters of Business degree. It normally takes 2 years full-time or 3 years part-time to complete.
It is a graduate-professional degree, and generally spends one year building foundational skills in all areas, then one year of electives which usually focus on one of four aspects of business - Finance, Marketing, General Management, or Operations. Other specialties exist as well, such as Strategy or Entrepreneurship, but the original four pillars tend to be what companies hire MBAs for.
This is usually a necessary step to move up in I-banking or consulting careers, and is useful in moving into executive management at larger companies in general. The standard placement of an MBA is at a mid to upper management level in a corporation.
I would point you towards rankings listed in US News and World Report and BusinessWeek to get a feel for the costs and requirments to enter a program. Top tier programs generally require work experience before applying, making the student body somewhat different than other graduate progams.
Requirements will include an application, essays, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and a GMAT score (a standardized test). Foriegn students have an additional language test that must be taken as well.
Hope that helps!

Masters of business administration. You have to get a bachelors degree first (4-5 yrs) then apply to grad school to get your MBA. After you are accepted it will take 2-3 years. so if you are a full time student (about 15 credits per semester) you are looking at 6-8 years.
