I have always heard in a certain town which i shall not name, that a large majority of the people living there are kin to one another by blood. I don't know for sure it is true, but, i do know quite a few people from that town and they seem to be less than slightly intelligent. In fact, a lady i met from there today got lost walking from an office in the local hospital to apr. 7 doors down.... i'm just saying... also, she called the local transportation company for a ride to the doctors appointment and then asked them to meet her at the store (that she drove her own car to) so she could get a ride with them.... does it sound just a little coincidental that the town she was born and raised in is known as a highly inbred populated area?

A lot of Amish communities have problems with inbreeding, in fact the govts of large amish communities put into place a transfer system where they move amish families from places like indiana to ohio or pa to try and help stop the inbreeding. So yes it is a big problem. There is some inbreeding in mormon cultures, not a lot but some.

It happened a lot in the olden days and where i live, rural Ireland ... I find it amazing that so many of the folk who live on a certain mountain have some sort of resemblance and do not act as though they were really intelligent you know ... But then i was told that inbreeding was still rife for them because they prefer it this way!

Inbreeding has nothing to do with intelligence except for the fact that uneducated people are more likely to inbreed. The problem with inbreeding is not mental but physical. It has the effect of increasing the possibility of genetic defects. You can look at purebred animals as an example. The more "pure" the breed, the more likely they are to have genetic defects.

My husband is a smart-aleck, and when someone does something he thinks is stupid, he says "That's why they don't let cousins marry." There are problems with intermarriage like that--genetic disorders especially get more common. That's why most states don't allow first cousins to marry. (I think there's an exception in Kentucky, where if the two are beyond a certain age, where it's no longer possible for the woman to get pregnant, they can marry).

There is no way that human can interbreed without the many genetics faults that come from interbreeding. Also new blood has to be constantly in the mix or that entire population would have died out a long time ago...... Also many disease come from to much interbreeding.

Hahahahaha!

My town has a similar reputation to that, and there are certainly lots of idiots in it.

(Incidentally, my family moved here a few years before I was born. We're not native to the inbreeding.)

That's rather odd....but also kinda sad for the lady. She didn't have a choice about who made her. But anyways, I know plenty of people who are act the same way that aren't inbred lol.
