Technology is increasing so fast, I kind of wonder how long until everyone is saying "Back in the day, we used to have something called the internet."

Do any of us know the answer ?
What ever we say will be assumptions only.

50 years back we did not have any idea of Computer, Photocopier, CD, DVD, Television (in most of the places) etc. And I asked my grandfather and my father that in their childhood they never dreamed about it.

So, we really can not anticipate exactly what would replace Internet. May be after 50 years computer would be replaced by some other equipment!!

I wonder when my son will be of my age (he is 12 and me 46) he would discuss with his friends "Can you imagine in my childhood we use to play games on a funny looking box with one disk of 650 MB memory. How silly !!".

It just changes by little steps until eventually it is nothing like how it used to be.
Back in the day, we used to have to call each other's houses and hook our computers up together. It made for some big phone bills sometimes. Then eventually the internet came around. The next step would be to change the internet to fiber optics (internet 2)
And then to wireless broadband. Eventually, you will have little gizmos that do everything that is currently done by your cell phone, digital camera, home computer, ATM card, and maybe even your clicker or your house keys.
But little steps at a time.

I don't think so... Internet is the basic term used for any kind of communication. first it was just static web pages then came the animated pages then came the voice and video. so tommorow we may be using a technology far more better than today the term will remain the same.

For example a car will be called a car even when we would be hoovering around the city. Maybe Hoover car. lol.

I dun think so..

internet is already ruling the world now.
if it is ever replaced, it may take more than 50 years ....

although i agree with you that tech is increasing so fast that we cannot keep up with it sometimes, but still internet is already a huge invention which i think will be used until something more useful comes out better than internet.

Good question.
I havnt really thought about it.
I suppose the only thing that could outdo the benifits of the internet is a portable internet or some "mind chip" which allows us to download information to the brain.

Don't think there'll something else bigger and better. Think the internet will itself evolve into things bigger and better and still unimaginable to our minds at this point in time.

I doubt it, the internet is evolving as i type, thus it kinda replaces itself, becoming better all the time, the concept remains, it just changes alittle

No it would just evolve, Internet would never gone, perhaps someday we'll ditch webpages for virtual realities, but underlying Internet would never gone.

No, I think it will only improve with time. Changes, of course, but not replaced. That's just my opinion.
