He's a nice guy, but he wants to make sure he can hunt on our property, for isntace, so he starts calling me months prior to make sure we are "buddies". In the off season, it seems we are persona non grata. I finally gave up on getting back to him. There just wasn't any substance for a friendship. Should I have tried to talk to him when we really don't have a friendship?

Be straight with him. Tell him, "You know, I noticed that you start calling months ahead........". You got the key, now stick it in the lock, unless you want him to continue to use you. Tell him he's not being the type of friend you want in your life and therefore............... Don't second guess yourself. If it feels like you're being used, you're being used. And shame on him for being so obvious and self-serving. Tell him to take a hike in some different woods.

I have this same problem. I don't hear from her for months and she lives two blocks down. out of the blue she will call or come by and say I need a favor. My husband wants me to confront her and let her know that coming around only when she needs something isn't a friendship, it's a user. I have known her forever it seems and it has always been like this and it's getting old. I don't want to do it anymore but don't know how to tell her. upfront i think is the way I'm going to go.

If you think he's a fun buddy to hangout with, then yes.
Yeah. Or if he's just a selfish MOOCH, well then forget about him. And dont let him take advantage of your hunting area.
