this subject just came up to my mind while i was reading something and i just had to ask. do people who watch pornography movies and videos have a lower self esteem than those other people who dont view such adult materials? if this is the case, then why and how? i hope watching pornography doesnt interfere with my daily life. best answer gets 10.

Porn watching isn't necessarily related to low self esteem. Would porn make you feel better personally or does it just entertain the thoughts of arrousal and pleasure. Porn is a mix of voyeurism, sexual experiences, and fantasy. The lack of control in the urge of sexual satisfaction, is the main problem. Just like drugs, you can get addicted. Not even getting "addicted" can cause a person to have behavior changes or increasingly bad habits. You can't just sit around watching porn all day as its the only thing in the world that makes ya feel good...you might be stuck inside wanting to become anti-social from society. Some folks dont like dating and all the strings that come with sex and rather become anti-social; does this mean the have low self esteem. These are all worse case scenarios as most folks act private and discreet in watching porn. Its the ignorant and weak who go over board and change their lives in accordance to the porn scenes. Those idiots may become strippers, swingers, prostitutes, neighborhood whores, or even porn stars theyself. Do everything in moderation and what you do in the privacy of your home is your business. Just dont let "pleasures" take over your life. Good luck!

Well, I would assume that watching pornography leads to new ideas. These new ideas are not necessarily things that occur in daily average everyday life, at least not for all. I would believe that low self esteem can come from not being able to accomplish these new things. Also watching porn in the first place, I would assume that it is for someone who is lacking something, I mean getting a kick out of watching someone else do it is not cool especially when you can go and get some yourself. This is just my perspective.

Well, I think it is possible for it to cause low self-esteem if you don't keep in mind that the people in most porn are professional exhibitionists. The chicks are usually great looking, and the men are muscular and have 8-10" penises. That's enough to make anyone except a porn star feel bad over time.

I was shocked at your question, but I see no correlation between watching pornographic movies and self esteem. I know many people and myself that watch these movies and I see no evidence linking this to low self esteem.
Low self esteem comes from the environment and/or personal experience you had when growing up.
The only way I think low self esteem is effected is maybe by the person who already has low self esteem compares his physical body to those on the screen and relates them to his real life.
But pornographic movies does not causes people ot have low self esteem. I think it help build self esteem by showing good and proper ways of satisfying their partner and giving them more ideas to do it.
So keep watching and learning.

I've heard that women can get a lower self esteem by watching porn because the women involved are usually perfect 10's and it makes women more uncomfortable with their own body.

I think you have lower self-esteem while watching porn if it's the same sex because, then you might compare yourself and think you are lesser. I'm not quite sure about different sex. But either way, I hear porn is addictive so I suggest you lay off it before it gets out of hand.

If you are in a relationship, porn will interfere with your life. My husband's addiction to porn has nearly ruined our marriage and has definitley done damage to my self-esteem. We have sort of recovered as a couple, but I'm not sure that my trust in his attraction for me will ever be restored. I am a good looking lady, but who can compare to what a man sees on a porn site?

well I know seeing some perfect body chick with plastic surgery can make me feel insuperior....of course we compare ourselves!
But low self esteem would be pre-existing...
