Remember movies like Menace To Society, and Boyz In Tha Hood? I am sure you remember movies like that. Movies that always portrayed black men and women in a negative light. They were always shooting one another or the women were sleeping around. But now movies like that have faded away. We now have movies and shows that show our successful black men with white women. Or our beautiful black women with white men. Do you think that the media plays a big role in the way that black ppl treat one another and even in relationships? For instance in the movie Monster's Ball (Black men would you have liked to see Halle Berry have sex with someone other than a white man) or black women when ever turn on the television and they show a white woman kissing a black man, does that raise a hair on your head? why do you feel there are not as much positive interactions between black men and women. And why do you think they continually show movies and shows like this? And why do we constantly watch them?

chanice you are obviously very intelligent- but its starting to become apparant you really have some issues about interracial relationships..you seem really concerned about those white folks takin your men and women....as a black woman with a masters degree, your own house and car, a child and looking fine and not ghetto... do you not have a relationship with a black man..is that whats bothering you? im not trying to be mean or rude..but every question you have seems to be targeting interracial interaction.. (oh trust me, i wouldnt care if halle berry was blue id still want to hook up with her) ... as for tv..mmm.. mixed feelings there..i figured when BET announced themselves to the world...blacks would finally have some of their own ..portraying themselves in a positive light... and look at em now--- rap videos where brothers call you ho's and bitches ..on about 80% of the time..im all for ppl staying in their own race if thats what they want to do.. hell, i would have never believed the predjudice ive seen between light skinned and dark skinned blacks if i hadnt been married to a beautiful black woman.. but its there... anyhow- i wont get in ur business anymore... but like i said, its really becoming obvious you have some issues with interracial anything.. and possibly some low self esteem-- good luck with that..

That's a GREAT question...I guess they think the tension of an interracial relationship is more interesting. While there are a few comedies, and a TON of the movies made by rap musicians that have lot of black people, it's rare to see a drama with a black cast. Maybe the studios are worried that people won't identify--if that's the case, it's sure to change soon. I think maybe it's a little too convenient to have a race saved to play the street gang role. Or maybe there just aren't enough black actors--you can't cast Cuba Gooding Jr., Chris Rock, and the Wayans Bros. in every movie...

Why are you so against watching interracial movies? What's wrong with them?

I do believe that the news shows a skewed view at times on Black Americans. But a lot of movies that are put out there like " Boys In The Hood" are made by Black film makers to show life on the poor side, and issues young Black Americans have to deal with on a day to day basis. So my question to you is then,,,,, do Black film makers put there own people in bad light??? ( just going off your train of thinking)

They do show us as negative and media still clouds our eyes and mind with there own image. TV is a perfect example just look at all the white females that are portrayed as this is the way women are suppose to look. Its poisoning to the mind and then any where you go to work or shop like malls and large stores its the same thing displayed every where you look.

i am not black but i am going to respond anyway.
i think the media does portray blacks in a "bad light", but is that the accurate light or not?
if it wasnt for movies like boys n the hood and menace to society, juice and all the rest, i wouldnt know to be afraid to go into "the hood". i frequently do go into black neighborhoods that are portrayed as dangerous by the media. my trips to the black ghetto are strictly job related. inglewood, south central, etc.
what surprises me every time i go there is that i dont get robbed, or car jacked, or even harrassed. at least not so far.
and i wonder if blacks are as dangerous as the media portrays or maybe i have just been lucky.
maybe all the crack heads and violent thugs are still asleep at 1 in the afternoon when i am out there....
maybe white america wants me to be afraid of you.....
maybe all the fear is perpetuating the cycle of oppression....
or maybe blacks in general are stuck in a rut, and the media is just telling it like it is.
