To me these traditions have largely contributed to poverty in africa and they are associated with witchcraft.
Dont you think leaders should discourage their communities from being enslaved by them as they are used to please/satisfy the elderly.

Honoring your heritage and the traditions of your people are what keeps many nations going. To be a good leader you need to connect with the people. I fully believe he should do what he thinks is right. I think he should uphold the traditions of his people and try not to be corrupted by modern society.

I practice an african tradition religion. I will always uphold the traditons and heritage of that.

Yes he should! Have you been to Africa and observed these things first hand? I have! That is an unfairly biased and judgemental statement. Tradition doesn't cause or contribute to poverty, lack of education and resources does. A restrictive or dictatorial government does. Very few of the African tribal traditions have anything to do with witchcraft! Christmas is a tradition, Thanksgiving is a tradition, the 4th of July is a tradition. Is any of this sinking in?

Senator Obama should practice whatever traditions he so chooses. Poverty in Africa is caused by Christians and other holier-than-thous coming in and interfering with their traditional ways of life. And largely American oil companies.

Why is it when African spirituality is mentioned in such a negative light. It is a system that has been around long before christianity and it has served us well. The general publics perception of witchcraft, voodoun, santarea, candomble is only founded in myths and the media. One needs to educate themselves in these matters or it will incite hatred and bigotry. Learn to celebrate diversity and acceptance for that which you do not understand.

Senator Obama should do whatever he wants to do. If he wants to honor some traditions of the land where his ancestors came from, who are we to say he shouldn't?

Please try to become more open-minded and accepting of other cultures.
