Remanufactured to 100% performance standards Panasonic Toughbook laptop that includes: Intel Premium 300mhz, Windows 98, 6.0 gb, 128mb, 12.1" TFT Color screen, cd-rom, 56k fax/data/modem, type I, II, III slots, Rechargeable Li-ion battery, 2.3" H x 11.8" W x 9.5" D dimensions, and an AC adapter. Retail $679.95, plus I get a software package that includes 15 different things. I got this voucher from the publishers clearing house that pays for $400.00 of it if I respond by Sept. 12. I only have to pay $279.95 for it, and I can pay in installments if I want to. I already have this main comp that I am typing on right now, but I have kind of wanted a laptop. I'm just wondering if that this refurbished one is worth it, and for the price. Because a new toughbook laptop cost well over $2,000.00! Thanks!

it's always a bad deal to buy something you don't need.

No, it's a horrible deal. For $210, you can get a refurbished 500MHz P3 with 128MB RAM, 20GB hard drive, DVD, 14" TFT, 56K model, 100MHz ethernet, Li-Ion battery, pre-loaded with XP and Office2000, no voucher necessary. And even that's too slow for a real machine.

What you should get depends on a lot on what you want to do with it. A PSP is 333MHz and only $200 new. A 312MHz Palm TX is $240 open box. Both are good at what they do, and they're far more portable than a laptop. If you already have a desktop, what do you want from a laptop that you can't get from a handheld that's linked into your desktop?

That's not a very good deal for a VERY slow and old laptop. I personally believe that the toughbooks are way overated, if you are careful with your laptop, you shouldn' t ever need any of those protective features. The only feature that is worth the money is the hard drive drop protection feature that is now used on most new laptops (and that laptops is so old i'm sure the hard drive won't have that feature). There is an enormous amount of great deals for laptops on ebay. Don't waste your money... shop around and get a good one. For $400 you can get a acer travelmate with a 1.6 ghz processor.

Just don't. Specs are not meeting todays standards. Why a toughbook, do you really need to go into the bush? Get a new one with better specs.
Don't go for the free software, 9 out of 10 it's rubbish you will never use. The things you need are available at cnet.com.

I have a feeling that this is not a good purchase... if you figure a wireless card requires at least 400mhz then you can't use wireless... also some DVDs require more than 350mhz... so now your out a DVD player, and word is requiring to have more than 128mb of ram... it will take forever to just start, Now Windows 98 will have no support from microsoft as of this fall... that means you can't update it... if your looking for a used computer or laptop you shold try this forum I use... its www.craigslist.org... you can check it out before you buy, it the biggest classifieds you can buy from.

Very BAD deal, What are you going to run on that machine?

1 year down the line theirs even gonna be less programs that work, and another year even less...

No sorry, id rather save up some money, and buy a "newer" secondhand notebook. Atleast 1.3Ghz, 256mb ram, and a 40gb hard drive.

You can buy new laptops like this for bout $700

Wait until the November black Friday sale and then get one at a much better price at Walmart, Fry's, Best Buy, check them all out before you biy. There are even good deals out there now on new ones, but better in November. Unless you need this particular one desperately.

Depends on what you are looking for.
If you just want a word processor machine to take with you, it is probably worth it.
Still, I am wary of re-furbs. For $500 you can get a pretty decent laptop with a warranty.

no do not do it I fixed them at one time myself but after they go bad once and are refixed they do not hold up so now I fix them good! I pound them with a 15 pound sledge hammer.

get something newer second hand at a computer shop or store with a 30 to 90 day return on it.

i wouln't it sounds really slow. Better to get like a dell for 700$ or something, i think this would just be a waste cuz you would just hate it cuz how slow it is.
