My husband and myself went school clothes shopping and we bought everything his son needs for school and sent it to him, next thing we know his EX just calls and rudely tells myself and my Husband that she needs money for school clothes I was completely dumbfounded because my Husband pays alot of child support for his son and he doesnt mind when his son needs something he will make sure he has it but this time we were at a loss I stayed out of it I just treated her nice until My Husband got on the phone and then he let her have it (she has 2 other children from other relationships) I thought my Husband was kind of Harsh hes usually so civil when he talks to her basically he has been really civil up until she called us out of the clear blue asking for money for school clothes. So was My husband wrong for being BLUNT this time?

She actually wanted $1000.00 because she said the cost of living where she lives is much more expensive than where we live I kind of feel bad for her other children but my husband and I discussed it and he said they are not his responsibility.

Also keeping in mind that my husband knows that he isnt the childs biological Father( he found out recently) he does still provide for him and he has said the child is his son hes taken care of him since birth so he is his son.

What happened to the clothes that you just bought? I don't care if you live in New York or Timbuktu, $1000 for school clothes is way too much!! have your husband tell his Ex that he HAS to have receipts for all items purchased from now on for his taxes when it comes to child support matters. If they have an attorney or other legal aid that they deal with, make sure that that is also noted in their file as part of their agreement. As a general rule, requesting receipts from an ex-spouse who has additional kids that don't belong to you, when it comes to any child support is a good idea. That way you you can see just where your money is being spent and on what. It also tends to make the ex a bit nervous about spending the money on anything but what they are suppose to be spending it on. Set spending limits though. Kids are expensive but $1000, COME ON!

You husband sounds like a very good man. He has every right to send his son clothes. She is getting the child support that is required. By her saying she wants cash would make me believe that she has no intentions on getting anything for the child. I hope you cut the price tags off the clothes so she can't return them for cash. Have you thought about getting custody of the child? He was not wrong at all.

No. He wasn't wrong in my opinion. But maybe he could have been more polite about it, but still stand his ground. She was rude first, but it's still ok to tell her 'how it's going to be'. and not let her take advantage of him. After all, you and he did already buy a lot for the boy. She probably asked for MORE MONEY for her other 2 children because they still need things for school. I'm very sorry about that too, but he shouldn't have to support them too. She can ask their other dads. How much was she asking for anyway?

What's she having children with so many different men anyway? (you said she has 2 other kids from previous relationships).

Anyway, God bless You both for your willingnes to help take care of his son.

It's a good thing your husband's EX know she can't always make demands just like that. Your husband fulfills his obligations to his son, so she has no right to do that.

If your husband has been ordered to pay a certain dollar amount for child support, that is all he is required to pay for the day to day care of his son. The only variation from this is in medical and daycare costs. The fact that he sent his son clothes over and above his ordered child support should have been enough. His ex has NO grounds to ask for more. He was right to put her in her place.

i don't think he was wrong i just think he could have investigated a little more first just to see what went wrong maybe the clothes had not gotten there yet or maybe she didn't know so before blowing up look at other factors and if she was just trying to get more money out of him then we have to look at her motivation was it so she could buy school clothes for her other children or was it for herself if it was for the other kids even though they are not his kids you can't really blame her much for trying to take care of her kids in whatever way she knows how but if it was just so she could get more money for herself then he did the right thing

Not at all if he went out and bought all the school clothes and other needs his son needed then why would she ask for school clothes money. He had the right to be upset. Now if he didn't buy those things and she asked for money then yes he would of been out of line but he did buy them so she deserved what he said.

Actually, maybe she needs a little bluntness. After all, your husband already did spend the money for school clothes, right?
