What's your opinion. Jay Leno had something to say that really made me think:
"With hurricanes, tornadoes, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I think people are taking things a little too far. This IS one nation under God so why are the evil pagans trying to spead their disturbing ways to the rest of us. The whole point in God being in the pledge is that this nation was BUILT with trust in God. Hello "In God we trust" Look at your money. Stated right there.

Jay Leno really made you think.
Well, he is known as one of our greatest philosophers and statesmen.
Really, do you listen to yourself, ever?

But by the way, the Pledge of Allegiance has nothing to do with the nation being built; it came into existence much later, and without the phrase "under God." That was added to the pledge during the Cold War to differentiate us from the godless Communists. I'm not sure there's a lot of deep spiritual meaning in that.

we could continuously take "God" out of the pledge of allegiance. we could continuously additionally take "In God We believe" off of our foreign places funds. u . s . a . is suppost to be a rustic with separate church and state. To be honest and not hypocritical to the form we could continuously do away with them. i individually have not got a situation with it. If we did do away with it then we would have all those "tea-baggers" up in arms.

Horse pukka. Jay Leno is about as genuine as Rove or Libby. If you had one you'd need a second one cover the other one up.
The point is that spouting God is not the same as following the ten Commandments or the Golden Rule. Say God or chanting God is not part of the Jesus story. For God's sake, throw the dam cross in the river!

God doesn't figure into the equation. The pledge of allegiance is useless anyway.Nobody except little schoolkids say it anymore. When god looks like he's in control then we'll give him credit!

I think that God will always be in our Pledge of Allegiance. God is everywhere in our government. Like you said, money "In God we Trust" has God. But there are tons of other things. Like the Washington Monument, it declares "Praise be to God" in Latin for example.
As long as we are electing Christian presidents, we will have God in our government.

"God" wasn't in the original pledge of allegience. I think adding it was extremely disrespectful to the original author.

pagans???? what century do you live in??

our constitution affords us freedom of religion which also includes freedom FROM religion....

you don't have to agree w/ but must respect that a portion of our population do not believe in God. our country is in the business of serving her citizens..... not God. and we are not a nation under God but a world under God...... God doesn't show favoritism towards Americans because you think so!!!!!!!!

I THINK THE ORIGINAL PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE SHOULD STAY THE SAME WITH THE "...UNDER GOD..." PHASE IN IT.

AND FOR THOSE WHO OPPOSE IT JUST DO SAY IT WHEN RECITING IT. SKIP OVER IT. ITS YOUR RIGHT OF FREEDOM IN AMERICA.

PLAIN SIMPLE SOLUTION ! OK PLEDGE PROBLEM RESOLVED !

We should use the original version...WITHOUT a mention of God.

this is more apt:
One nation, under surveillance, with liberty and justice for all.
