Here's my shortcut definition of a secular humanist in case you were curious. Anybody that cares about his fellow human being because we are all together on this planet, all in the same boat, trying to do the best we can, trying to love one another, and sometimes getting screwed for our efforts. It really doesn't make a bit of difference whether there is a God or not because he doesn't figure into the equation.

I didn't say a secular humanist does NOT believe in God not did I say I didn't believe in God, I think I said that their actions are not dependent upon the existence of God nor on the expectation of being rewarded or punished for their acts in the afterlife but that they measure good acts based upon their intrinsic merit. I like to think that I do good and help my neighbor simply because it is the right thing to do. Some of the most decent and moralistic people I know are Atheists so I tend to judge people not on whether they believe in God or not but on how they conduct their lives.

I think all people have a little secular humanist in them.

Take me for example... I'm basically a manipulating, greedy, lying, cheating, miserable ba$tard who will stop at nothing to get ahead and will often disregard the truth when it suits me. I will never pass up an opportunity for revenge. Nothing feels better than revenge!!!

Yet...

If someone were to answer a question of mine on Yahoo Answers... And their answer was just as good as anyone elses, while being a little more entertaining at the same time... If that person wanted and needed the Yahoo Answers points SOOOO, SOOOOOO VERY badly that it actually physically hurt them REAL bad... If it would help the person in finding a new, better life at level 3... I would likely just choose that person's answer as the best and award him / her the points. I'd have no reason not to. Nothing to gain by not doing it. Nothing to lose by doing it. So... why not???

I guess just about everyone does a nice thing for another person once in a while simply due of the fact that we are all fellow human beings. Even me... If there's a little secular humanist in even a rotten scoundrel like me... then there must be a little secular humanist in everyone!!! It's a wonderful thought that actually gives me some hope for the future of mankind!!!

He doesn't figure into "YOUR" equation, that doesn't make Him not real. Are humans really doing the best they can, all buddy buddy, we're in this together. HMMMMM, nope, it's every man for himself and as long as I can take it without getting in trouble for taking it, then I will take it, or like Axle Rose sings "take whatever you want but you better not take it from me"
