Try using a double breast pump if you're pumping away from your baby. You could also look at a picture of your baby which can trigger letdown.

I used to use a manual pump on one breast, while I nursed my son on the other breast. He was way better at getting letdown than the pump ever was, but I managed to fill a bottle every time I simultaneously nursed and pumped. It was a little undignifying, but I guaranteed a full feeding of milk would be pumped (and then some, some times).

You can combine partial feeds, so you can pump twice in the day, and put the milk from each feeding in one bottle. Breast milk contains compounds which retard the growth of bacteria, so no harm will come to your baby by combining feedings.

As hard as it seems, do try to relax. Letdown doesn't happen when you're stressed in any way.

Do not wear tight sweaters or bras. Also this may sound left field but when your milking your breasts close your eyes and pretend it's your child suckling.
Your frame of mind has an effect on how much you produce. Also tape the baby when crying from hunger, this will fool your body into responding and producing more.

Last but not least when you use the pump are you nervous or in a hurry? You need to be in a calm state of mind or else the milk will not drop.

Increase you water intake. Drink more milk, and make sure you are taking your vitamines. Are you getting plenty of rest?

Make sure you are real relaxed when you are pumping. Take some slow deep breaths.

what do you consider not enough? even a few drops is like gold for a newborn, remember their tummies are only about the size of a marble, so no more than 2 ounces at a time just after birth.

Never add water, they get enough hydration from the formula/breast milk... they need the nutrients most.

try not to pump, natural breatfeeding will stimulate the breast tissue better and reduce chances of infection. Ohh by the way don't feel guilty to add a bit of formula to your baby's diet.
