because from what I read It sounds like a bunch of psuedo-sociology. Does anyone really think a minority at the same income level has a harder time getting into college...or getting a good job. If so please explain why. I can see how a poor kid would have a harder time to become a doctor than a wealthy one but that is a class and education issue. If the reason is that blacks are still generally poor compared to whites because of this countries history(slavery) I believe that is a cop-out...it will be a self defeating outcome for your race. This is not a racist question..just an honest one

I agree, the playing field is quite level, even someone from a poor background can take advantage of student loans, scholarships, in our society, if you want it bad enough you just have to reach out and take it. What the 'experts' teach can sometimes leave you wondering who died and left them in charge. I was told by a behavioural psychologist that no one can make you feel anything, you simply choose to respond in a certain way. I countered with the fact that my 1 yr old cries when I leave, who has trained this child that she should cry when I leave, why is she choosing to cry. To me the answer is obvious, the child cries because that is a natural response, no comment from the expert.

Well the truth is, blacks ARE "generally" poor compared to whites. There are a lot of well-off blacks but, you still do have those who struggle. I think you already know that in some way this isn't a cop out.

As far as college goes, there's is this system that weeds out all the so called "less-intellegent" students and that's called the SAT's. Most of the time, it's the minorities who get's low scores. But, how do you know that a person is just plain stupid according to a test? What if we weren't even taught the things that's on that SAT's. I know that I certainly wasn't aware of half of the things on that test. It's according to the area you live in and the type of school you go to. In my case, I didn't have choice. You go to school according to the zone you live in.

I know alot of students who have recieved high scores on their SAT's and they are however, dumb as a doornob! This country doesn't look at the person, this country looks at a piece of paper that has non-sense curriculum to determine who get's in and who doesn't, and not to mention how much money you have.

This country goes according to "who you know". Frank's the boss and through word of mouth, his friends daughter would be a great hire because she dabbles in Human Resources. Yet, you have dozens of qualified applicates waiting for a interview in the main lobby. And from my experience, yes more white people have gotten hired on that alone. Because of the relationships they have in higher places.

This country says it stands for equality and oppertunity but, I can't even land a job because the CEO's secretary suggested her catty get the job instead? If you haven't dwelt with this don't just assume that it's "our race" just being lazy or something because the truth is, all of blacks aren't and we do try. Everything isn't just handed to us. We have to work twice as harder and always stay a step ahead because just like elbow freak mentioned, it's who they know more about and that's currently the rich white man.

Thanks for this question. It is very insightful. I think you are directing this question toward minoritie in general but you gave an example of blacks, so I will continue with it. I think blacks are widely considered "the poor class" because they have pretty much been that way since we started our country. We just recently got rid of slavery, so blacks need time to recover from the centuries of mistreatment. The problems arise when groups like the ACLU subsidize these people. The idea then becomes why work if the government pays you not to? That is why minorities seem not to be progressing.

Hopefully this helps you.

Try this: What does "racist by institution" mean?

Oh, that's much more clear.

That means the "established order" enforces racism. So, once upon a time, all hiring managers were rich white guys. They are naturally and forgivably more likely to hire people they know more about than those they know less about, so they naturally hire more rich white guys and children of rich white guys than any other group, and so most people with jobs tend to be rich white guys and the ofspring of rich white guys, and since having a job definitely helps to get you rich, the cycle perpetuates. The don't have to think rich white guys are better, they just have to know more of them than any other group, and the system continues. That's the theory, anyway.

Institution referes to jailhouse/prison ways of life. Whites don't hang with blacks don't hang with Mexicans, etc. I don't believe that you understand what type of institution you are referring to.
