I would start with that he is a great cricketer. He has answers to all sort of deliveries. Everyone of us has seen him playing and he always looked well in control.
Now for he is a match winner or not, for that you will be have to determine the definition of a match winner first. For some people it could be the percentage of games a country has won when the person has scored well or bowled well in the game. For others, and I would say for maximum of us, match winner is the one who performs in adverse conditions, scores, and win a win for the country. Sachin Tendulkar is a match winner by first definition but may be not by second definition. There are reasons, though, for his not being a match winner as per the second definition inspite of being a great player. Also the scenerios are different in test matches and one dayers.
In one dayers, he opens the innings and thus it has always been rare that he found himself in adverse situation. Usually the situation comes after the fall of 4-5 wickets and around 35 over, and you can't expect a opener to always play that long or full innings. Even if the opener is not out, he is so tired by then that you can't expect much from him. Still, he played many good and winning knocks - remember Sharjah tournament where he single handedly took India to finals and then won the cup for India. By second definition, you will rarely find any opener as match winner in cricket history books. By first definition he is definitely a match winner as India has won 71 of 111 (63.9%)matches in which he has scored more than 50.
In a test matches, I would say he had just played well and haven't been a match winner, sans couple of innings (I liked his innings in chennai test against Pakistan, although India lost the match). He comes down at no 4-5 and that's when the adverse situation, if any, occurs and he hasn't faired that well. By first definition, he has done well in test matches as well - India has won 23 (24 innings) matches, drawn 30(35 innings)and lost only 15(17 innings) of 76 innings in which he has scored more than 50. Here also the percentage of won + drawn is quiet high. And India has just lost 37 of the 132 test matches he has played in ( won 41 and rest drawn).
By the way, his best is yet to come. Just wait and watch - nothing can speak better than his own bat.

Definitely he is not a match winner. You can see that most of the matches have been lost by india when he hits 100. He is good player before 7 yrs not now. Now he is a record maker and he wants to keep his name. What manjrekar has told about sachin is true (he is selecting matches) and also he is not at all fit. I AM A VERY GOOD FAN OF SACHIN ONCE UPON A TIME.

yes of course, he is a world class batsman who has the ability to change the game anyway.he has the experience to handle the pressure situations well,he had worked with our former players,he can even guide the youngsters in the team.he is mentally and physically fit and he is considered a threat always to the opposite team.his style of batting makes us chreish him.he has a variety of strokes and definitely a world class player
the major reason that we reached the finals of the world cup was the great little master SACHIN TENDULKAR!!!!

sachin tendulkar for me is the best alongwith lara...!! but the fact is that both r not match winners at all! he is not selfish by any means...but lacks tat cool head to mtake the match to the wire end!! only 8 of his 39 cneturis have ledto indian victory..and only 9 of his 35 tets cnturis led to indian win!! it tells u alll.....but he is still the best!!

Ofcourse he is a match winner. He has won so many macthes for India. On theother side has also failed in some crunch matches playing for india. But that is natural for any player.as nobody can be perfect everytime

no he is not. if yes, send me an email listing the matches that he has won for india. he is not the same player. he is too flashy and very very lucky to have early reprieves whenever he has played a long innings. we cannot keep on living on the laurels achieved in the past.
