well, first of all, not all transgendered people are gay before they have the surgery. some have the surgery knowing or feeling that they were just born in the wrong body, and after having the surgery, feel complete, and like things are, how they should have been to begin with.
second, if a gay male has the male-female surgery, and becomes a woman, and still obviously likes men, then SHE is straight.
if a lesbian has the female-male surgery, and still likes women, then HE is straight.
and there are the ones that have the male to female surgery and still like women, thus making them lesbians, which goes to prove the point of being born in the wrong body, as do women that have the female to male surgery and still like men.
altho, tranvestism without the surgery, be it a male dressing und living as a woman, or a woman dressing and living as a man, providing the person is gay to begin with, is in fact, gay.
but keep in mind, that not all tranvestites become transgenders.
i know of a support group of straight men that arer transvestites(and make up to be very beautiful women), with the support of each other and very loving, caring, understanding spouses.
but to answer your question, not all transgendered people are or were gay before during, and after the surgery.

I've met a few of the local transsexuals here. One is a woman who became a man, and is married to a man (s/he was married to him before the surgery). The others are men who became women and are now lesbians. One can be transsexual and be either gay, bi or straight. It's a matter of gender identity, rather than an issue of homosexual tendencies.
