what does it mean to have soul?

are you "soulful" and if so, how so?

Lawdy, in the late 60's only black people had soul and could dance. It was amazing, black power and black is beautiful.

Before then soul was just a religious issue.

Today, almost 50 years later, soul mostly means connecting with your deeper self. Phrases like "singing from the heart" and "tapping into your chi" is soul. New Agers have claimed the word and .. uh ... 'grounded' it, if you will.

For me, if you ask if I am 'soulful' ... babe, I certainly am when I put on my favorite James Brown Live At The Apollo or Marvin Gaye's Greatest Hits or some Chaka Khan.

At my age, this is still one of my favorite genres .... because ... I'm a prisoner of love...

I believe I was told that Aristotle believed that all living things have souls -a tree would have a plant soul, a dog would have an animal soul and humans have, you guessed it a Human soul. However, personally I believe it is a part of us that doesn't contain a physical attribute so to speak but its function can be see physically. It's the part of us humans that contains the emotion, intellect and will. I think it's different than our "spirit" but most people use the words synonymously.

That means different things in different places SistaGirl. In music it means you have the power to move someone with your sound. In a gang it means you aren't afraid to fight. On the web, it probably just means you have nice eyes.
To me personally, it means I'm willing to do what I believe in even if it's a little risky.
Soul should help you conquor fear, but if you do something stupid, that ain't soul, it's just stupid. God grant me the wisdom to know the difference...
