It sounds to me like a UTI that has spread to your kidneys. You'll have to go to the doctor to find out for sure though.
Were you having any symptoms or signs that you might be getting a UTI before your kidneys started hurting, such as burning, frequency, etc? If you ever start feeling like that again, you can try this out: Eat a yogurt (make sure it has "live acidophilus" listed on the label somewhere) in the morning and then one at night. You can also eat one in between those times if you feel you might need it. Also take garlic pills (or chopped fresh garlic instead, you can swallow the pieces like pills) and cranberry tablets. And drink plenty of water, no drinks that contain sugar. Do this at least a week or two. If your back starts hurting like that again or you see blood in your urine, get to a doctor.
Hope this helps. =)
PS. The yogurt is the key to this because it's what makes you stop having those urges to urinate and helps kill the infection.

This could be caused by a whole lot of gynecological conditions, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, and even fibroids. Differentiation of the above and other causes would be possible only after a detailed history, examination and maybe a few tests. Therefore no one here can give you a definite answer and you would need to see your doctor.

You really should be examined by a doctor to determine the causes of your pain. It could be caused by any number of things including a urinary tract infection (bladder or kidneys), endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or other abdominal conditions. My best advice, see your doc.

You need to go see a doctor. Could be a kidney infection, urinary tract infection, kidney stones, etc. Yahoo! answers is not the place to get a diagnosis!

I had something similar once, I went to the doctor and they told me I had bruised my cervix or uterus or something. She said it was the equivalent of being punched hard in the balls. She said it would just get better and it did. I would go and check though.
