Yes my daughter had a couple before age 1. The whole thing was about a week. It was bad and seemed to be worse at night. You should sleep when she sleeps like when they are newborn. You don't need to wear yourself out. You could snuggle on the couch together so that way if you are sleeping you feel be able to feel her if her fever spikes.

It does happen, and make sure you use all the prescriptions and drops. My doctor suggested warming a wash cloth (not too hot) and just lay it on her ear. The heat sometimes make her feel better. You can warm it with an iron or get it damp and warm it in the microwave. This seemed to help her fall asleep. Don't let it drip at all because you don't want any water in there.

You can make what I made for myslef. A rice sock, a really soft new sock fill it with plain dry rice and tie a knot at the end. You can put it in the microwave and warm it. I can't tell you how long because all micorwaves are different. I do mine for 3 mins. and 45 seconds and that is really hot. So maybe start with 45 seconds and test it. That way she could lay her little head on it. I used a man's sock "The softest sock in the world". You could use a girls knee sock or a ladies sock. It stays warm for a while. You could even lay a hand or dish towel on top of it. It is comforting, my daughter used it a couple weeks ago when she had an ear ache.

Hang in there and just keep checking the fever. Make sure she drinks allot of clear liquids all the time because with a fever she could get dehydrated, that isn't good becuse they would have to give her an IV. That happened to my daughter too not with her ear but she had a stomach type of flu.

Boy of boy do I handle this, my son has ear infections all the time, he is on Zertek, it's an allegy med. He only had one bad ear infection where he had a fever for a week and we had no idea it was an ear infection bc he never had a fever before.
We started to take him to a Chiroprator and the results have been great--You should ask or talk to your doctor or Chiropractor about Alphadolphils--this a bacteria that puts good bacteria back in their bodies to fight infections, when the doctor gives you antibotics to kill the infections, what they are not telling you is that the antibotics are killing the good bacteria as well as the bad. If you child is on Milk and eats yogert they are getting good bacteria put back in their bodies, My son is allergic to the protein in milk.

the next option is tubes, but this is our last resort, bc we heard that it could cause hearing loss.

I feel your pain bc me and my wife have been going threw it for a while, my son is now over 2 and have been using the chiropractor for a couple of months now, and he is very pleased with the out come and so are we.

Good luck, hope this helps.

I know that I am a little late and to help the baby sleep during the ear infection try putting her in her infant carseat (if you still have it) after you put her to sleep. She will be sitting up enough that her ears won't bother her. If you dont have the carseat. try propping her up on some pillows.

My son had his first ear infection at 8 weeks and it lasted until he was 18 months until they put tubes in his ears. All the antibiotics did was mask the infection. Not saying this will happen to you. Just say i had many sleepless nights and making him as close to vertical to sleep was the way I got sleep.

Your baby girl is hurting right now and we as mothers wish upon wish that we could take that pain away, but today maybe tomarrow you will see a difference in the the ear infection and how the antibiotics are working.

good luck and sleep when she does. That also helped me.

My son, now 8 years old, got his first ear infection at 6 months old. We got rid of that one, but in a couple of months he had another one. That one stayed, literally, until he was 2 years old. I was at the doctors office every 2 1/2 - 3 weeks and we were on some new antibiotic. He had his first sset of tubes put in right at his 2nd b-day. He had his 2nd set of tubes 8 months later as infections forced the tubes out of his ears. He has had a real heck of a time. Not this past May, but the previous May he had one of his eardrums replaced because the infections blew his eardrum and he had only 10% of his left eardrum remaining. He also had a hole in the right eardrum. We went back several times and although the eardrum graft took, he burst the new eardrum. We went back a few more times to see if his ears had stabalised and we could do the replacement on the right ear. It was really crazy because the right ear had healed itself and hole remained in left eardrum. Well, he blew his right eardrum again just last week from another ear infection.

One thing that we have learned is that you should try to never give anything to dry up the runny nose that often accompanies an ear infection. The AMA discovered within the past 3 or 4 years that the decongestant thickens the mucus/pus in the ear and therefore it cannot drain as it needs to. We made that mistake over and over again, but we didn't know at the time.

I have found that a warm washcloth (in a plastic baggy so no water enters the ear) over the affected ear is a tremendous help. I would also sort of cup my hand over the ears. For the runny nose, try sitting on the edge of the bathtub, while the hot water is running, with the shower curtain pulled closed around you with your baby in your lap.

Luckily my 9 month old got over the one that she had quickly and has been doing great ever since.

Please, please be diligent. My son's eardrums bursting repeatedly are caused because his eustation tubes do not work properly. We are unsure if it is because they are malformed or if they were damaged by so many infections. We are hoping that he will grow out of it, but as it stands right now he cannot go swimming or take a shower (tub baths only) and we have to be extrememly careful not to get any water in his ears because with the holes in the eardrum(s) it could lead to him becoming totally deaf.

I really like hyland's earache tablets for my babies. My daughter has had 3 ear infections and she's never needed antibiotics for them because of the tablets. Also most ear infections are viral not bacterial so antibiotics won't even help 90% of the time. The ear infections usually will go away for me after a day or two of home treatment. I always had them diagnosed with a physician before administering tablets and herbal ear drops. I use garlic ear oil for that.

Yes my son had them all the time!! The ear infection usually doesn't last over a few days. The fever should go away in a day or so. I always put him in a luke warm bath and wiped him down with a cool rag from head to toe. That usually did the trick with a lil bit of baby tylenol.
Go to www.babycenter.com they help a lot!

I went through it all the time with my 2nd child, it seemed like as soon as it was cleared up another one came along, it was a nonstop struggle of keeping her comfortable but there is really nothing you can do about it, my grandma used to blow cigarette smoke in my ears when i had an earache and I always thought she was wacked but it actually worked although i would not do this to a baby, just stating a fact. Well good luck and congrats on your pregnancy

Mine didn't but I know A LOT of people who have and ear infections are a fairly common illness with little ones. It's tough because they are so small and don't understand or cope well with the pain. It hurts bad and they don't even understand why. I'm not sure how long it lasts but I'm thinking about a week. Just be aware of them because it is something that can reoccur through their childhood. So give so good hugs and know it's just one of those tougher times.

I've been thru what you are going now. Just rest assure & Nothing much to worry abt. Just clean & clear ur baby ear s often s possible especially after ur baby wakes up from sleep. Try let ur baby sleep on your chest or your hubby chest while lying down, she might fall asleep. Hope that help. Cheers'
