Ferdinand Marcos has been dead for more than 10 years now, but recent events in the Philippines have shown that he was one of the leaders with enough foresight to anticipate the problems that plague the country now. Had he stayed in power, most of the crises hounding the Philippines could have been avoided. In fact, a recent Manila survey shows that the majority of the people think he was the best president the country has ever had.

As a person, Ferdinand Marcos was a great leader and his only downfall was his wife. As for martial law - his type of martial law was unique because he was still in the helm of govt while most martial laws are led by military people. Yes he had the foresight to anticipate the current problems but its something he should have curbed himself but he couldn't even do that with his own wife so go figure why this country is in such a mess. The Filipinos deserve the kind of government officials they voted for.

Dude, its no use crying over spilled milk. If he was the best during his time, he's done his job. Others think he's done it well while others think otherwise.

Marcos is a great leader no doubt, but his leadership strategy could not be as effective as it did before if you'll apply that in the current political condition in the Philippines.

Democracy was not prevalent during his reign and suppression of freedom is in effect. Whoever leads a nation with minimum freedom of expression, will surely be able to tightly control and manage it. Opposition at the current context is non-existent during that period. Looking at the current political situation in the Phillipines, no matter who rules, he/she will face similar difficulties.

Just hope and pray that the citizens start to make a move towards a long lasting stability. The government alone cant do it.

There is no doubt he was brilliant and loved by the people in the beginning of his term, but his last years as President labelled him as a dictator. I do not know what to think about him after he was thrown out of power by the Filipino people in an unforgettable revolution.

As to being the best president the Philippines has ever had, I beg to disagree. The Philippines is a democratic country and to be ruled by a dictator is not consistent with democracy.
