I wish all schools did that. Since I have a 4.0 GPA, I could then get into any school I could afford!

I think it's valid to use or not use the SAT, really; I'm not sure there's a right answer. It's all in the opinion of the school and how they want to shape their student body. Having the SAT requirement can perhaps allow schools to differentiate between two students who have similar GPAs and similar activities; if one student has a higher SAT score, then that can be the "tie-breaker". Or, one could argue that the SAT isn't a good judge of what kind of student someone is; it's just a judge of test-taking ability. Thus, some schools might prefer to select students based on their personalities as revealed in their essays; as long as grades are decent, then it's passion and desire to learn that really matter.

I personally think that having a good score is important, but there's little difference in people whose SAT scores are within 100 points of each other or so. I attend a university in the nation's top 5, and I know students who got anywhere from 1300-1600 (on the old scale) on their SATs. But, everyone has amazing interests, passions, and opinions that make them wonderful to know. So, to conclude, scores should mean something, but they shouldn't be the most important. :)
