I would have to say actor. Actors are paid for every film or TV show they make, and if those shows go into syndication they receive royalties. Musicians make very little off album sales, majority of their profit comes from touring and memorabilia. Actors have a better chance for a larger audience, because people can relate to the fictional characters they play. Where as musicians are limited to a persons musical preference. When an actor’s career is over they can get on a reality TV show. You only need one really good film or TV show to set yourself for life, something with a huge cult following like Star Trek or Harry Potter is something that perpetuates itself, enormous bands like the Beatles are few and far between. I think that's why a lot of musicians try to move into films before their careers grow stale. Films and TV shows carry a kind of nostalgia that music can't provide, in most cases. You can find a lot of people who are still big fans of Mr T, not very many people will admit to being a big fan of say Boy George.

I am going to be really honest, these are both TERRIBLE "occupations".

My advice is do everything in life in the proper order. The proper order to me anyway is to make sure you've got some way to pay the rent with an occupation that pays you steady money. Then, if singing or acting is what you REALLY love, then just punch that clock and get out of work every day and pour your heart and soul into something that you love.

Singing and acting are ARTS and ART is at its best when it is being truthful about matters of the heart... it is not easy to be truthful about matters of the heart when you are desperately trying to sing and dance and act for your rent money! Desperation usually doesn't breed good art.

So have some kind of sugardaddy setup with either a good job or someone paying your bills for you, and then do singing and/or acting as a PASSION and do it with love and TRUTH.

Oh, and then what happens is, if you keep plugging away at it and get recognition for it... then you can turn it INTO a career once your on-the-side success takes off!

But I wouldn't count on it as a career. Count on doing both and paying the bills with the day job, and living and loving your art with all of your freetime. If you work it, one day it might be able to support you... but in the meantime you can fall back on the first profession....

There's no real answer to this question...It all depends on the person...

It has to do with in which their passion lays...

At either rate, there are plenty of similarities between the two. Being on stage, touring, having fans, etc...

If I'm to answer that question personally, I'd have to go with singer...I'm in love with the magic that music has...Not that it's any better than the magic of a brilliantly written script...

It's all subjective.

singer, you have a better opportunity. An actor is harder because the producer makes the call not the audience.

Singer, if only for the reason that there's many more places you can make money. If you're not a recording star, you could still do backup singing, commercials, choirs and choruses, nightclubs, etc.

i would rather choose singer...

cos as an actor you have to play different roles..though one may say you can try out different things... but the thing is... you may need to do certain act n scenes that you do not wish to...

tat's why i rather choose singer.. put ur love n feelings into singing n tat's it...ur fans would appreciate it most...

I think it would depend on whether you're good at acting or singing.
Both require talent and developed skills. And both offer a lucrative opportunity.
But both require massive dedication and commitment.
