Word: "homophobia".
Homo---gay.
Phobia: Fear.

Why do people call others who aren't all on gay people's jocks so to speak, "homophobic"?! lol.

I am not scared of gay people. Yet, people call me and others homophobic. WHAT am I supposedly afraid of?! The "Fab 5" coming to make me over??!! lol. seriously.

"GILNO": Calm down there, buddy. Why are you threatening violence toward me? I still don't have a phobia against you even though you said you'd "beat" me!! lol. Peace.

It is a shallow, baseless defense when all else sensible has broken down.
Consider the source and don't let it bother you.

Well I'm glad your not scared of gay people, but that is not what homophobic means. Homo does not mean gay in this case except to small minded folks like yourself. In this case, homo translates as same, as in homogenous or as in same sex. What most homophobes fear most are others of the same sex. They are afraid of how they may feel, or afraid that woody may show up in the gym shower, or make them wonder why they sport wood when sitting on the toilet. And if you think being gay makes them feminine, you are an idiot. What would be fun to see is a group of leather daddies coming to make you over. I bet you would be afraid when they showed you where they wanted to put their traffic cone. Just relax, you'll love it.

Homophobia is an overused term. Translated literally, it means "fear of homosexuals." These days, it's definition has been expanded to include everyone who acts as though they are opposed to same-sex couples. While this may not be technicaly correct, it is understanable, given all of the tension between the gay community and the straight community.

you are fearful and portray it as otherwise. stop denying it. you just can't understand that the stereotypes aren't true. we aren't all child molesters and predators like some stupid bastar*s say. I do thank you for not attacking us here though. if you actually sit and talk with a gay person who isn't a total flamer, you would understand. most of the people i know have absolutely no clue that i am gay. "gaydar" is a joke. i act just like any other guy. i don't cross-dress or act like a flamer. in fact, i can't stand flamers.

i have been wanting to do this for so long but never did...

the word makes no sense whatsoever...how is it possible that someone is afraid of someone else b/c of what they like?
its like saying i like strawberry icecream and someone who doesnt is afraid of me?? its the same thing w/ ppl...
ppl who claim they are homophobic arent afraid of the person, they just dont like the fact that two men or women can be together...oh and get this, i knew a few ppl who said that they are homophobic of men, but said its ok if women were together...does that makes any sense at all? It is the same thing, isnt it...?
i believe it is just ignorance...or ppl who are just hateful...i dont know which...actually both...there we go...but what im say, does it make sense to u??

Phobia means _irrational_ fear of something.

So people who are homophobes may not be able to describe their phobia. The word itself makes sense in its propper context.

Well, actually...
Homo means "man." or in this case "human." So saying that you are afraid of man is sort of a strange way to put it.
Although if you think about it, it means that we may be afraid of truths within ourselves that bring out social fears when we interact with certain people.

Maybe we are all homophobic in a sense, huh?

Fear also means "uncomfortable". I have claustrophobia, and acrophobia, but I'll still ride in elevators and go on roller coasters.
When you are homophobic it means that you are uncomfortable around homosexuals.

You also assume that every word in the English language has only one definition.

Because Fear is the root emotion where Hate comes from!

If you have ever taken basic psychology you'd know there are only two base emotions, Fear and Happiness. Everything else stems from those two roots.

A phobia is an irrational fear. Fear is the root of hate, pain, dislike...

People hate what they fear, they fear what they don't understand. Therefore the people who hate gays because they don't understand them are afraid of them in a way. I know it doesn't fit perfectly, it applies more to people who actually afraid of gays and it stems to people who hate gays.
