I was driving home from the store today and the car behind me had the radio blaring so loud that it even hurt my ears. I just thought that if that young person wasn't already deaf he sure was on his way to getting there. I love music as much as anybody else, but personally I would like to keep my hearing as long as possible so I can continue to enjoy my favorite music.

It really is a medical problem, most teens are losing their hearing, and aren't aware of it, or just don't care.
At their age, they think they are indestructible. But a few years with that kind of noise, and the become deaf.
Because they are already losing part of their hearing, they have to keep raising the volume, therefore making it worse.

As a person past my teenage years who continues to love good music, it has to do with emotions. To have loud music playing around you encases you in another world that's impossible to replicate.

As far as damage goes, nobody cares much about the negative consequences of something that they enjoy. And the more someone enjoys something, the less they care about the consequences (e.g. smoking, illegal drugs, promiscuous sex, etc.) In addition, most people think that science will be able to repair any damage caused.

Finally, loud music played in cars is due to adolescents' refusal to care about others.

I'm eighteen and blast my music. I don't really know whats so appealing about it but when its really quiet it doesnt have the same effect as when its practically cracking the glass. A LOT of teenagers blast music with the windows down because they think it makes them look "cool." Especially Rap music for some reason. I do it because I like the way it sounds.

Loud music ifrom a car is often a way to show off. I've heard psychologosts equate it to the way an animal might strut when trying to defend its territory.

Also, really loud music can have a bit of a hypnotic effect, IMO.

I do it because I don't want to hear traffic and other music, and I usually only blast it whenever its a really good song! And my windows are down, because I have no air conditioning in my car, Sorry if you hear my music but theres not much I can do about it

I honetly think that we as young ppl think that listening to our music that loud makes us fit into this world. Look at our celeberaties, I think we go by what we think makes us look "cool" like them. Or either it's just b/c were trying to get others to notice.
