Little bits and bytes that remember your login information for various websites so you don't have to. On the other hand, they track your movements on the web and often put data on your PC that you didn't ask for. Very small and disposable.
Recommended Action. Most web browser allow you to "protect" certain websites for "cookies" when you run a general wipe of web history. "protect" the sites you like and use often, Wipe the rest regularly. Write down any financial logins and never allow the computer to save or remember them. Lyssa.

depends
some are bad some are good and others indifferent...
they store info from websites you visit... things such as passwords, viewing preference and whatnot are kept on them... they open up as text files when ya click on them...
nothing bad will happen except the next time you visit a site you'll have to put in the password again...its only bad if you've forgotten it and cant remember the e-mail addres you used to make an account for that website...
cookies eventually eat up a lot of space on your computer if you go to a lot of websites..

your computer just saves short cuts to websites so if you go back to the same website it loads faster. It also allows people to see what web pages you have been to and it takes up hard drive space. I delete mine about 1 time per week. It wont hurt anything

A cookie is a very small text file placed on your hard drive by a Web Page server.
It is essentially your identification card, and cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. It is uniquely yours and can only be read by the server that gave it to you: http://www.microsoft.com/info/cookies.mspx :)
