Story, characters, writing style? I just finished this book and found it fascinating and I can't quite pinpoint why.

For me it was the interconnectedness of the sections, how they seemed separate, yet by the end are so much a part of the whole, coming full circle to the end, in a sense.

It is an extremely vivid story, and they symbolism is heavy on it, yet unobtrusive, if you know what I mean.

One of my very favorites. In fact, I need to give it another read...

Faulkner like to give enigmatic interivews, and when he was asked what it was that inspired him to write TSATF, he stated that he had envisioned a young girl in a tree, with dirty bloomers. This led to the creation of Caddy, and her poor troubled brothers.
I think the novel is an amazing portrayal of a family (hence a culture) stuck in time, with no way to move forward. (By the way, the title comes from a soliloquoy in Shakespeare's Macbeth: which says that (I'm paraphrasing) life is a "tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" Think about that in terms of Benjy....

I like his descriptions of trees and humidity
