this may sound like a stupid question but i was wondering why if so many people are good at street basketball, some even legends on their courts, why they never go pro?

Because street ball is much different than pro ball in the NBA.
For one thing, a lot of rule violations are "winked" at in street ball...palming the ball, double-dribbling, etc.
Also, street ball is a very ego-driven game, and winds up being basically just a series of one-on-one matchups...and a bunch of individual one-on-one players will almost NEVER do well against players of the same talent level who are playing good team ball, both on the offensive and defensive side.

you have to have the oppertunity
scouts dont walk around the streets trying to find new players
a lot of people that play streetball may not be able to go to college therefore they are not seen by scouts

also a lot of people that play just for fun do not believe that they are even good enough to go pro despite what people tell them

a lot of the cool stuff you see in streetball games are not legal inn basketball so if you strip some players of theyre flashy illegal move theyre really not as good as they appear

A lot of the streetballers never go pro mainly because they either never get reconized, they have something against the NBA, or they are simply content playing street ball, and don't want to have to make a big transition.

Well, I think the streetball legends MIGHT lack the discipline, strength, speed and all of the other things it takes to play on the professional level. Don't get me wrong. I KNOW that some of those streetballers would eat some pros if they played fundamentally, but most of them can't handle the transition. Also, some of them might enjoy doing streetball, as opposed to the pros. Streetballing can be lucrative.

because one streetball is an entirly different game than pro basketball. you could be really good at basketball and just terrible at streetball. there are no rules ecept for out of bounds. and going pro is more about the money. streetball is about respect on your court and anybody elses. its a different way of life that is not close to the same as the nba

Cause NBA GM's don't want to take the chance on a guy coming off the streets. They figure, if a guy is really good enough to play in the NBA then he would have went to college or went over seas to play. It's a form of stereotyping.

One player from And1 plays in the NBA Rafer Alston aka Skip 2 My Lou. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafer_Alston
Street ball is not traditional basketball It's best compared to what the Harlem Globetrotters do. Very entertaining.

I would think that professional basketball is more difficult because their stricter about rules such as carrying, travelling, and personal fouls. The transition has been made by some but it's a difficult transition (see Rafer Alston aka "Skip to My Lou" who plays for the Houston Rockets).
