We are moving and we have clothes, like new or never worn, and furniture that we can't take with us. How can I make some money without a yard sale? I have donated so much already and could use a little cash for some nice things. What does anyone think about auctions? please give me your input on options/choices.
thank you

take your clothing to a local consignment shop and they will sell these items for you on consignment (for a percentage of the selling price.) Sometimes they will even buy the items from you outright.

Another option would be to take them to a e-bay store where they will help you sell the stuff on e-bay (better for non clothing items)

EBay was also my first thought, but in the end u have to pay to use eBay so unless u sell alot ur gonna end up making no money anyway! From what i hear if u have enough stuff, people love auctions and the profits are usually pretty good. Yard Sales are alot of work and sometimes u get lucky and sometimes u don't. U could also run an add in ur local paper for like a week with the things u have for sale and give them ur number, i know alot of people who sell things this way and add for a newspaper cost like $7-10 for the week!

I had some furniture when I moved into a smaller house to get rid of and called an auctioneer. He picked up the items and sold them for me. Be aware that they will take a commission - percentage of what they sell it for and you will have no control of the price he gets for it.

Clothes are best donated - too much hassle to try to sell them and even at yard sales, they don't go for much.

You can always put the items on eBay or Yahoo auctions. You will want to check on shipping costs. Clothes will be easy to sell on an online auction, because they will be easy to ship... furniture... you'd have to either arrange for crating and shipment, or specify that the buyer had to pick up the pieces. This might limit your buyers to just your local area, but that may not hurt, depending on where you live. Local newpaper ads, radio ads, or "swap shop" spots on the radio are also good options.

Hope you have a Good Move!

There is a second hand goods market in every city. Locate that. Having a auction is another good idea. but I do think a yard sale is the best option.

1. Take your items to a Consignment Store, they will sell your stuff for you for a fee of course.

2. If you live near a college town, many students look for this and that on a budget.

3. Also if you have someone who can sell the items for you that would be an alternate way to make some cash.

http://craigslist.org offers community-specific online classified listings. You can post your items there, and people from your area can shop them and contact you (via blind email or phone). You don't have to ship or wait for payment, either!
