I was interested in beginning to play Final Fantasy, but on playstation 2 it starts in, like, part 10 or something.
Is it worth getting into or is it too late to start playing becuase I won't know the storyline of the game, or it doesn't matter much. I also saw that there was recently a movie out. By the way, I'm confused by roman numerals, but didn't a Final Fantasy game just come out, the number going backwards (part 7?), when it's supposed to be part 10 so far or do I have the numerals wrong?
Thanx.

Great thing about FF is that you don't have to played previous games to get into the newer ones. All of the FF have their own individual storyline (unless you are counting X-2 which was a sequal). FFX was pretty good, story line was ok, but the game itself was beautiful. Nice thing about PS2 is that you can play PS games on it. I would recommend checking for some of the older versions, VII and VIII, if you really want to experience great FF. You can find these almost everywhere for a good price. Have fun!

Final Fantasy goes all the way to 11. You need a computer and an adapter to play 11 (currently). The first Final Fantasy (FF) was for regular Nintendo. I think 2 and 3 were super Nintendo (that was a long time ago). I remember playing 4 but I don't remember what system it was on.....5,6 and 7 were PlayStation. 8,9,10 and 10-2 (it kind of continues the theme in 10, same characters) are played on PlayStation 2. My favorite was 7. 9, 10 and 10-2 are definitely worth playing. It doesn't really matter which order you play them in (with the exception of 10 and 10-2). Once you play any of them you will be hooked. FF has been an ongoing series for at least 12 years. Good luck and have fun.

yea, a version of 7 just came out. dirge of cerebus.
and you're talking about playing 10 on ps2. it wasn't horrible, but it was far from any good. luckily, it wasn't as bad as the original version of VII (7)

if you would like a final fantasy that was actually any good, you should get final fantasy chronicles, and play FFIV(4). it's the best of the series, and a good introduction to what an rpg is supposed to be

All the Final Fantasy games have its own storylines. To play Final Fantasy X and not VII is completely normal although having prior knowledge of its predecessors would aid you in collecting armors, weapons, and sometimes 'summon's. I recommend you play both because they are fun in its own ways. But don't worry. You do not need to play the other games to start FFX.

Have fun!

Am I honestly the only person who still has the original systems and cartrides/cds for the entire series?

Darn, I feel old.

No, you don't need them, and depending on where you live, you can get FF 3-9 on PS1, hooray for backwards capabilities for playstation.
