Maiasaura were initially discovered with nests and hatchlings and this was the first proof of large dinosaurs looking after their young after birth.

In fact the name maiasaura means "good mother lizard", and to my knowledge maiasaura is the only dinosaur (certainly the only famous one) named as female rather than the masculine "saurus".

It is likely of course that most other related dinosaurs had similar maternal behaviour. But Maiasaura is the source of the best evidence that we have.

Out of all dinosaurs, they have the best proof of being good mothers. Doesn't mean I'd let her watch mine though.
