I am uber-sarcastic and I say "negative" things, but I like to think of it as realistic things.

I have a handful of friends I get along with really well, but I find that the majority of people do not understand me. For example, if I say something sarcastic to someone I've just met, they just look at me blankly or answer in a serious fashion.

Why is it this way? Do people truly prefer happy, giddy people all the time? (To be honest, these types of people bore me because they only say "nice" things and they seem fake and dull...but I digress.)

Well, sarcasm can be construed as being very rude, and our generation is really the first to accept sarcasm as a normal thing in everyday conversation. Aside from that, the other problem is that cynics become very tiresome. They are pessimistic, and people are only willing to spend so much time around them because in the end, they just get sick of it. You don't have to be happy and giddy all the time, because that can be just as tiresome, but you should take care to take other people's feelings into consideration before you speak. It might just help you keep your job/ friends who are questioning whether or not they can put up with what the majority of the population construes as rudeness.
Remember also that only a small percentage of the world truly understands irony, so that obviously makes it difficult as well.
Hope I answered your question thoroughly!

Happy, giddy people are all fake or no paying attention to the real world.

Just say whats on your mind...everyone needs the truth up the side of their head once in a while

Depends on who you are talking to.....are you being sarcastic about people who matter to you or to the general public? If you are sarcastic to people close to you then you should be in a sitcom!

Nobody wants to be with someone who isn't tactful. But I can see your point because I'm also sarcastic. Hey, at least I know that those people who are with me right now are my real friends - they accept me for I am. =P

That's is a true point. But without sarcastic people, wouldn't you think that life is too bored?

People don't mind sacasim as long as they know the person. If they don't know you, then to them you are just being a *****. Thats just how it is. Being nice sometimes is a must.
