No.

Think about this - the south had a culture of slavery. How friendly is that?!? Enslaving your fellow man has to be about the rudest and most unfriendly act committed by people.

In 1860, there were 6.4 million free people and 3.7 million slaves living in the south. That is one slave for every 1.7 free people! Incredibly unfriendly. Unless southern mentalities regarding their fellow man have changed 180 degrees (unlikely), the south is extremely unfriendly.

More friendly than who? I believe friendliness is an individual thing that yes, can be culturally different amongst sections of the country, but a lot of what you ask is really about beliefs people have of other people. Also, some of it is a self-fulfilling prophecy--that is, if you think New Yorkers, for example, are all rude, you're going to act differently toward them than someone from elsewhere and they, in turn may act rude toward you because of your rudeness.

Not in the UK! People in the south are about as friendly, or slightly less so, than northerners. I suspect northerners might be happier than southerners, but the north of England is beautiful so maybe that's why!

I just moved to Myrtle Beach from Ohio....it's definately different. There are tons of different kinds of people down here. The actual Southerners (which everyone down here calls them rednecks) are really sincere for the most part. The other's are just from mostly NY, NJ, OH, ok well you get the point from up North. The people down here are very odd to say the least.

yeah we are:) I lived in Ohio for about 10 years, and the people can be very cold, rude, and and heartless. (Not everyone, but in general)
I go to school in Auburn, Alabama for college, and I absolutely love it here. Southern Hospitality is real. The men are real gentlemen, and the women act like ladies. Much different than the north.
come on down we'll treat you right

As a black man who has traveled to the south on many ocassions I have found the people to be much friendlier than my native Californians as long as you are not a phony or elitist with them. They cant spot that a mile away.

I'm from Los Angeles and I stayed in Augusta, Ga for a year, the people there were quite friendly but when I moved to New Orleans they were total opposite, they were rude as hell. so it depends where you go.

Well, I am from the midwest, and when I was down south I got waves from everyone I passed on the road. Either they are really friendly, or I had toilet paper hanging out of my trunk.....
