Do you have to be licensed to be in the cake decorating business?

I'm not sure! It seems as if you are preparing and selling food, you might have to be, but the average cake decorator doesn't have the two ovens, and what else is required to be in the food service business! I would be discreet about finding out though! I have decorated cakes also.

You need a license. I took a business class this summer and I am planning on opening my own salon & I need a license for that too! Good luck, cake decorating sounds fun!

Whether you will need a food handling certification or not varies from state to state, locality to locality. You'll be handling food, even though you're not actually cooking it.

As other folks have noted, you'll need some sort of business license, and probably a sales tax certificate.

You can find out for sure by checking out your city or county web site and contacting the department that handles food handling permits.

Absolutely, a business license, and depending where you are, you will a food handler's card dealing with food. Call the better business bureau in your area and ask them, they will help you.
