"It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world"

What exactly are they trying to say with quotes from the butterfly effect?

That some scientists say that the flutter of a butterfly's wings can actually cause a typhoon halfway around the world. It is trying to show, that one little thing can have a huge impact on another thing. Like the little flutter can make this huge disaster. And the change of that flutter could make the typhoon go one way or the other. Just like the movie.

obviously what they mean is, something small i.e butterflys wing,or an ant.
can ultimatley cause a typhoon-i.e a hurricane,
halfway around the world, i.e. australia, so to sum it up ants drinking hurricanes in new orleans are directly responsible for the australian weather. get it? quit being like that, loosen up, thank-you hope this helped

Its called the chaos theory. The smallest of actions can create an unthinkable large event. It is about how we effect the world even if we don't mean to do it or realize it.
