Anything that burns hot enough to cause an explosion with enough power to move a piston will run a car.
Corn oil - Lemon oil alcohol the list goes on - You heard/saw the old joke movies where they poured moonshine into the gas tank and it took off like a rocket? Well I have seen this (modified engine) and no it didn't take off like a rocket but we got to town just fine.
There is absolutely no need for oil and hasn't been for many years - The argument has been it would cost to much to retool the factories it would cost to much to do this or that. This is of corse BS and the oil companies that can't afford the re-tool of it's shops has no problem cutting checks for multiple millions to buy the pattans for these "inventions they are studying".
So how many of you knew that the 3 dollar gallon of gas was unecesary? That hydoponic grown corn refined into oil could be mass produced in the Artic or anywhere else - the desert the factory next door.

You have got to be kidding we are still burning wheat to keet prices artifically high and have been out produceing our need for corn for 50 yrs. Corn costs what less than a nickel per cob and thats with a great deal of profit not seen by the farmer. The only thing wrong with corn crops is it's hard on the soil (takes the nitrogen out of it) and so you would have to rotate crops - but there is an over abundance now and we have a lot more land to go around for the crop if we needed it. As to the 5 study - wow whats gas now 2 dollars cheaper (for now) and personally I do not believe the validity of it. (Ontario produces more corn that is also burned to keep prices as high as a nickel than you'd want to know)

I knew all of this. Until this all happens though, I'd love to just see gas companies stop gouging the hell out of us. Hell, I want all corporations to stop price-gouging us. Example-Average gas price in Ohio=$2.88, average gas price in Washington=$3.10. Any difference between the two states? If anything, Washington's gas should be cheaper because it's closer and more easily supplied than Ohio ever could be. But they're still charging $3.19 for the same gas in Bellingham, Wa that i was paying $2.79 in Toledo, Oh for.

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

I've never heard that....but you CAN sweeten CAR WASH RUN OFF with citrus oil... ie:
PRE-WAX CLEANING
Now to the next step: Deep cleaning the paint or pre-wax cleaning.
Okay, a time-out here, people. Some of you by now are saying to yourself, "What ingredients do I look for?" The following are some of the goodies to look for (and although it may look like it, this isn’t a fruit-salad recipe!): lemon oils, orange oils (a.k.a. the citrus), coconut oils, micro-fine clay, sea kelp, banana oils, clay dust, apricot kernel oil, lemon seed oil.
Sorry...couldn't resist! LOL

cost per barrel? state funded? still comes out of our pockets one way or another and hidden costs . at least the oil companys pays a state tax to distribute their wares to us. we pay more in taxes when we buy it some one needs to make real breakdown of consumer cost comparison and post it on the internet so every one is completely satisfied with the next line of action. not the corporates but the consumers.

hydroponic corn? yeah, right.
I agree with your first two paragraphs but the amount of raw material needed to produce enough fuel to meet global consumption would strain production for human consumption. Sure, there is plenty of land that is unused that could be put in production but we are talking about years of coordinated effort to produce fuel. As for the cost, one university report said it would be close to $5/gallon.
