Cunning is a quick way to get you on top of situations. But it pays only short term dividends. You can't fool the same animal twice, and will seldom encounter the same scenario again.

With wisdom, the entire forest can sustain you. Knowing the terrain, you can protect yourself from the elements. You will be able to find food for sustinence and seek medication from plants and herbs. Understanding the nature of your prey and would be predators is a sure way to keep you a step ahead.

Wisdom is the understanding of what you have learnt, enabling you to put the knowledge gained into actual application. It'll take you a longer way.

wisdom will win out in the end.a cunning animal may be able to survive in the wildnerness, but eventually a more cunning animal gets him in the end, and so on. but wisdom will keep a human being alive. an animal knows by instinct how to survive in the wild, but this instinct also limits his movements. a human being with his gained wisdom can master the elements and adverse conditions. lastly, wisdom is what makes us different from the other animals.

Depends which wilderness you are in.

If it's the wilderness in which a pocket knife would be useful, then the cunning might have the advantage. Cunning is easily underestimated.

If it's the wilderness of life (of stupidity, ignorance, emotion, selfishness, and immorality), then wisdom wins. Not easily, not quickly, but surely and eventually.

In woods, it is sharp alertness with wisdom, that helps survival.
Cunning is attributed to jackal but animals do not necessarily view it so. Again only humans have labelled jackals to be cunning because of good strategy used by it to compensate for lack of speed to chase its prey !
As humans, for survival in woods, we do not need even the jackal type of cunning, since our vegetarian diet is available in plenty, and we only need to guard ourselves from other animals, fury of nature, slipping off a cliff etc...

Survival Skill. Because in a life and death situation you become very smart, fast and ready to take on anything to live. Survival Skill you are working mostly on adrenaline. The time you take to think of an elaborate plan would get you killed so wisdom won't work.

Wisdom (knowledge) over cunning.

If you know what NOT to eat, you are far ahead of the game with not having to stalk game.
knowlege also will allow a person to trap and kill meat rather than having to chase it down.

BTW, cunning is a man to man trait, not man over animal trait.

Wisdom can always overcome cunning but not vice versa.

Having wisdom would give me the ability to survive, I would be able to call on my knowledge to know how to hunt, what to eat, how to make a fire, what to drink etc.
