Does anyone agree with this statement made by Winston, or do you think this has or is happening in our world?

Orwellian fantasies have existed from the books first publishing. With the freedoms and information allowed today its a little hard to take the juvenile whining of those that point to "1984" and say big brother is upon us seriously. I felt more smothered in cant's in the 70's than I do now.

It would be interesting to see a real comparison of opportunity and freedom over time. Maybe someone could give a legitimate example of real deterioration of freedoms.

Bush is using the FEAR and SCARE to slowly take away our liberty's. However the cruel and hatred would never work. You would have too many rebellions and civil wars. People in those conditions crave for new leadership thus is a direct threat to the governing party.
