"Stream of consciousness" method always works for me. Just write whatever silly stuff comes into your head about anything around you & continue to write about whatever you think about (without regard to spelling or grammar) until something you've written strikes you as something to think about & write more passionately about. Always write about what you know & what you are really interested in.
Also, look up quotes & find one that speaks to you & means something to you personally & write about that, based on your experiences. The goal is to open up your creativity & push past your writer's block.

Take whatever it is you're doing.
STOP.
Do whatever it is on earth you can possibly do to avoid it. If you have a deadline in the morning, that's a different story.
Otherwise, sometimes the best cure is to go bowling. Packing a bowl, eating, seeing a movie, being with an old friend, new friends, anything, but NOT online.
bless.

I get where u r all the time. When it happenz i just take a paper and pencil, time my self for 5 minutes, and write every thought in my head. Wat ever u r thinkin, simply write it. Even if u cant think, just write "i cant think, i cant think....", until u get something good. Always works 4 me. Try it. Good luck on a paper if thats what ur doin.

take a step back and forget it for the day or night. if you can for the rest of the week.
then come back to it and you'll have new ideas. what you thought stunk might not sound great again-what you thought was great might now look likes it stinks.
you'll have a clearer mind.
