Ive been on the patch for three years now and Ive just recently started to have problems. In the past with the patch my period has been on a regular cycle. But for the past two month my peroid has lasted longer then usual. On day 8 for this month (it normally lasts only 3-4 days). I called my Dr. and she said for me to take my patch off and when my peroid is off to make an appointment. Is it my birth control that is causing this problem or something eles?

It could be your birth control... I used to have that same problem, mine used to last about three weeks. That's why I was put on birth control. I can't stand taking any kind of medicine that messes with your body chemistry so I read up on herbal alternatives. If you're taking the birth control to keep from getting pregnant, the best thing to do would be to use condoms or something else that won't mess with your body chemistry. You have a higher risk of getting cancer using pills and stuff like that anyway. If you're using the patch to regulate your period, the safest way to do that is to use an herbal remedy instead. The best thing I know of, and use myself, is Chaste Tree Berry extract (aka Vitex on some brands). The liquid is better than capsules, liquid's more potent. So you don't have to taste it, you can use the dropper to put it in an empty capsule. You get both of these at healthfood stores.

Oh and even if regulating your period isn't the reason you went on the patch, you still may want to use the Vitex because it will balance out your hormones that have been messed up by the birth control.

And to the part in your question where you said your period lasted longer than usual, you can use Periwinkle extract to help it stop. It's also good for when your period is heavy. It usually takes about a day to three days before you notice your flow waning. Also, if your period starts coming later than usual, taking Blue Cohosh can help. (this most likely will happen the first few months coming off the birth control if that's what you decide to do.) Btw, all these herbal extracts are safe to take together and with any prescriptions you're on. And there's no side effects. Since I brought up the blue cohosh, it's also good for when you're pregnant if there's a high possibility of having a miscarriage. It'll help prevent the miscarriage from happening. Don't take it the first the months though. Usually around the 5th-7th month is safe to take it.

If you decide to start taking Vitex, don't get discouraged about it when you don't see any change. Like I said, it works little by little, but I guarantee in the long run it will work. I started out that way at first too, but I pushed myself to stick with it for at least 3-4 months. I'm glad I did because I'm now back to normal.

Hope this info helps. =) Feel free to e-mail me if you want. Just click on my avatar...

Make sure you don't miss that appointment. You never know what could have happen with your body since the first time you started using the patch or if something else is going on.
Best regards

hahahha!! ah the rhythm technique. it somewhat is how i ended up the place i'm now, 6 months pregnant. in accordance to my record, I conceived the day until now my era became due, which regularly does not be the case, you're no longer meant to be ovulating at that factor. It worked for me and my husband for years (married 6 a million/2), yet as i found out, it does not continuously artwork. use a condom, heavily, or you are going to be able to desire to be in for a marvel.

If the pregnancy tests say you are not pregnant, then you are not. They are pretty accurate. You will have to continue taking the pill as normal even if you don't have a period because that's the rule. did you read the package insert? Good idea to do that.
