Honestly, I don't think it has anything to do with your being an athlete.
If you were this much of a jock, say on a volleyball team, or playing basketball, or even doing tennis, you wouldn't be having these problems.
The problem is the aggression. Hockey is a really REALLY rough, high-contact, violent sport. You said yourself, the words are right in front of me here: "I am the goon of the team with the hightst amount of penalties..."
Meaning you play hockey but you are on the ice to FIGHT. ;)
This is what is scaring the guys off, that you are positively radioactive with an "I can and WILL kick your punkass in a heartbeat, I can TAKE YOU!" kind of vibe. And I don't care if you are man, woman or beast, that is not the right way to leave a first impression.
My humble recommendation: Learn how to meditate. Do some Yoga, learn how to *relax* and chill out. I'm not saying you have to be a finesse player on the ice, ok? But you need to learn how to *leave* that cutthroat mentality ON the ice with the Zamboni.
But yeah, find a hobby or something to do that *counters* your aggression, because you have *WAY* too freaking much of it.
Edit/Update: MN_Wild_Kitty: I'm a moron? Can you READ what the asker typed? She said she was the freakin' GOON on her team. Hello? Her OWN words, not mine. And her added details...read the literal text of what she is REALLY saying, ok? She's going on the attack against anyone who does *not* suck up and *soothe* her feelings. I am actually taking what the Asker is saying at nothing more nor less than LITERAL face value here, she's asking a question about a *stereotype* and then turning right around and *proving* the thing with her verbal conduct.

One thing to start off, I am not sexist, I have two sisters that play college hockey. I have played hockey since I was four, But that comes across from a lot of girls that do play hockey. It becomes a stereotype because of how many girls/women out there are "manly" or "lesbian". One of my sisters played on two college womens teams and on both of them over 50% of the team were lesbian(not exagerating). Also hockey is a tough sport and womens hockey is still growing so in most areas, women have to play on mens teams. When women play on mens teams ( my sisters did growing up), they feel they have to prove they can be out there and just as good as any guy. So they are looked at as tough or "manly" girls. I am definitely not saying that all girls that play hockey are manly or lesbian but it is a big stereotype. Like all stereotypes, you have to find people that can look past it and see who you really are. But just to let you know, if a guy goes to your game and sees you being the "Goon", they probably do get a little intimidated, especially if they do not follow hockey that much.

Perhaps guys are threatened that you are around so many other guys. It would take a guy who is very secure.
For example, they'd have to be sure that once you started a relationship, some of the other guys around you wouldn't suddenly realize what they were missing and start competing for your attention.
Also, many men want to be wanted and needed and to feel manly (but not necessarily "clung to"... that's more extreme, and it's not attractive) and they want to feel more masculine than their date. Many men really respond to femininity, it is what they find sexy in a woman.
So maybe many men don't feel as tough as you (or as tough as you appear to be), since you're quite a serious female athlete who is actually competing, not with other women, but with men.
Finally, say what you want about being a girl but being the toughest player with the most penalties and playing on a team with all men makes you VERY unusual for a girl and this, you'd have to agree, is NOT "typical" girl behavior, whatever that means.
When it comes to attraction, most people want something that's on the other end of the scale from them. People want their other half to be exotic and different from their own identity, and to complete the other half of the gender orientation - the half that they are missing (or just deficient in) in their own identity. Thus masculine and feminine, dominant and submissive, extraverted and intraverted. Often these kinds of opposites make for good relationships.
So perhaps the answer for you is to cultivate and nuture your femininity. You can clearly play rough with the boys, but maybe you need to take time out and spend a lot more time with the women - shopping, learning attraction techniques, how to attract men in the more traditional ways.
OR maybe you just need to take out an ad or go to a professional matchmaker or internet dating site that will scientifically match you with a man that is compatible. Chances are he's an unusual or atypical guy - but he'll be crazy for you. The trick is, it's ok if he's rare - because even if he's one in a million, if he's the right one then one is all you need!

RE:
Why do most people think girl hockey players are either gay or manly!!!!!?
I've played hockey now for 11 years. Its honestly hard to get a boyfriend becuase of it. They assume im either gay or "one of the guys" yeah I am tough and mean on the ice and I am the goon of the team with the hightst amount of penalties but I still wear pink undies and curl my hair....

Well like I said for girls not being allowed to play football, I agree with most of these answers. They are probably jealous that you are more athletic than them. Most women and girls are more athletic than most boys and guys. Another reason why I think that girls should be allowed to play hockey is that alot of girls now are getting to be really strong. Alot them are working out and lifting weights and getting stronger these days. I think they should be allowed to play hockey because they would probably be better than some of the guys playing.

I think you are wrong. If I had a daughter I would want her playing hockey. All really good women athletes have to put up with that type of labeling. If you love hockey play , the guys will follow later.

Chaylen, it's obvious to me that the one's that make such assumptions that you have described, are very limited in their own experience. I was a teen during the 70's and women's ice hockey was established but not as popular as it is today. Because of the growth in popularity as a sport, I have managed to meet several women who play the game and I never knew it until they told me.
The astonishing depths of the ignorance in people amazes me. If they don't understand the game or have the aforementioned opinions about women who participate in hockey, take that as a cue that you are much better off without them in your life. Because if it wasn't about you playing hockey, then it would be about what kind of car you drive, or what you eat, how you fold your socks, etc.

i know i'm neither manly nor gay even though i play hockey, like to check everyone on my team (i'm the only girl there though) (and get penalties for it) and hate pink and girlie stuff and i believe pink and fluffy stuff doesn't have to do a god damn thing with being feminale!!!
anyway, to anwser you're question: i have no idea why, i guess it's because the girly-ish girls, the barbie dolls so to say, don't dare play hockey. so what's left are the cool chicks, which explains why they seem manly and stuff, but they're really just cool!

I hear you, I played Varsity in High School, but I am a girly girl too. These one sided bastards are just going along with what others say and not thinking for themselves. It's a shame that so many people judge women athletes. I would say that a lot of the men are afraid that we could beat them in sports, but in all reality, playing together would make you closer. Men can be illogical and defective like that.
Holy God, that Bradley guy is a freaking moron, poor bastard!

I would love to date a woman who plays hockey.......
I have a lot of respect for a woman who plays hockey and can still be a female........I hope that doesn't sound sexist?
My problem has always been that women hockey players think they have to be real tough........
I couldn't care less what you do on the ice.....as long as you are not doing it off the ice!
Keep playing hard...........
