Shelley...
Did I call ANYONE a name? Think hard, now...review the question. Nope. Did I question your patriotism? Nope. (Although YOUR response to my question makes everyone else wonder--"Sometimes, I am deeply distressed that I am an American." YOUR quote, not mine.)

I am truly sorry you have fallen victim to the lies your high school teachers or professors are shoveling you. I give you the benefit of the doubt of being a captive member of the audience.

I ask an honest question and I get attacked. Typical.

They are only tolerant of deviant behavior, and then they act so above everyone who isn't as "enlightened" as they are.
They are usually against common sense, and love to fight about stupid things like not drilling for oil in Anwar and then complaining we are in Iraq for oil. WE HAVE IT - YOU WON'T LET US GET IT. Maybe we should overthrow the EPA - who's with me?

edit: Shelley - I too am deeply distressed that you are an American.

That is a good question, I have wondered about myself. It is the liberal way to say one thing and do another. To be tolerant but yet when it comes to Republicans they throw out words like "I hate", " if I had my way they would all be in jail", "or killed", or worst.

Just can't understand the intolerance of some left winged individuals.

It is because they now they don't like what is going on but they have not agenda to change it or make it better. They are just hungry for the power. In the eighty's they lost their 40 years of power in the Congress and they are still trying to figure why and how it happened. It is hard for them to look inside at themselves as the problem, so it is easier for them to blame everyone else and especially the Conservatives.

Go figure?

If liberals AND conservatives are so "tolerant", why do they hate those who disagree with them so much?

This from another thread:

"Liberals are Jew-hating Nazis"

Now who's doing the hating?

Check out any other thread involving bouts between conservatives and liberals. You'll see just as much hatred on both sides. You can selectively quote either side and claim it's the only example of hate all you want. For every liberal message of hatred you find, there's a conservative one.

Your question is biased because you only implicitly accused liberals of being hateful and intolerant. If you really believe that conservatives don't behave exactly the same way, you're bigoted.

I am a liberal/moderate and I don't hate conservatives who reason without resorting to name calling. However, I can't stand conservatives who question people's patrotism because the latter questions a government policy. I can't stand conservatives who would rather advocate divisive policies to score a political point rather than effect a positive change in society.

They don't attack Jews, but some are against Israel because Israel is using our funding and our weapons to collectively punish the Lebanese. Sometimes, I am deeply distressed that I am an American.

First, I don't think you know what a liberal is. You shouldn't rely on Fox News. Check Wikpedia. Or get a dictionary. Traditionally a liberal was someone who believed in free markets, personal liberty and the rule of law.

George Washington was a liberal. Thomas Jefferson was a liberal. And so were most of the founding fathers. The American Constitution was the first liberal constitution in the world. American Liberalism was the first successful challenge to the despotic rule of hereditary monarchs, who claimed a God given right to rule. And that was the alternative.

America is now returing to a hereditary system, and the Divine Right of the President to do whatever he thinks God tells him. We had George I, now George II. Which member of the Bush family will be next?

I am proud to call myself a liberal. I believe matters of public policy should be determined by reason and evidence, not personal supernatural beliefs. Where is your evidence of this liberal intolerance? The pictures on the link? Whilst a few of the signs do show some anti-Semitism, what makes you think these people are liberals? And what makes you think all these people are motivated by intolerance and hatred? Many of the signs raise valid points.

And just because someone is anti-Zionist, or anti-Israel, does not make them anti-Semitic. Many Jews, and many Israelis, deplore and oppose what Israel has become.

Contrary to the impression given by the American media, Israel's continuing expansion of its borders is contrary to international law, and several UN Security Council resolutions. Israel has a right to defend itself, but not to continue annexing and colonizing neighboring territory.

Finally, in the 2004 election, the Jewish community was the last identifiable ethnic group to remain loyal to the Democratic party. The Jews continue to be strongly represented amongst America's liberals. Israel isn't a liberal/conservative issue.

For the intolerant ones...maybe it's because they're tired of being attacked!!! I mean I see at least twenty questions attacking liberals for every ONE I see combating conservatives.

A lot of liberals are young and naive people. When contradicted they tend to react like little kids.

Blaming statements and rallies like this on all liberals is like blaming the Nazi party and the KKK on all Christians.

There's a differnece between opposing individuals and blaming entire groups. And that applies in both directions.
