Johnny was ashamed when he lost the race,
The loss was a blow to his pride.
He told his Mother I wish that I never had tried.
His mother said Johnny hold your head up high.
There no dishonor in failing,
The dishonor is in failing to try.

As long as we've tried our best and finished the race we can take pride in who we are and what we've accomplished. We only have to hang our head in disgrace if we know we've failed because we failed to try!

This poem has been a part of my life and inspired me since I was in the fifth grade.
