I have seen how people put the "vines" from their pothos plant along the top of cupboards or counters etc.. can someone please tell me how to make it grow like that so nice. Mine has vines that are only 1-2 ft. long.. how long will it take for them to grow to longer lengths? Also what kind of pot should I plant it in? The pot that it's in seems so bulky and also there are a lot of vines planted together.. should there be only one planted for what I'm trying to do? If anybody knows how to make this look nice along counters and stuff please explain in detail what I should do.. Thank you

My barber has a pothos plant that must be 15 ft long. It receives adequate indirect light & they water it on a regualr basis. If you ever let it dry out too much, it will lose leaves, look crappy & won't grow as long or as fast.

Pothos like to be root-bound. If you trans-pant inyo too large a pot the leaves will be smaller and remaon small until the plant gets a lot more roots. The general rule on transplanting is 1) Don't transplant until you see roots coming out the bottom of the pot, 2) then only one sizr larger pot. It's perfect;y acceptable to have more than on plant in the pot. I sart new plants from pieces of the vine which have lost their leaves. Wgen I Get 3 0r 4 sarts with good roots I put them all in one pot. Fertilize monthly during active growing season which is usually the monthe with the most sunlight. All plants need a resting period. Winter is a good time, Do not fertilize during this time. As for long vines just give them good care and be patient. Or you could consider places more than one plant on the cabinet tops.

Keep your Pothos well fertilized. I have one in my office window that has gone up and down a pole in the pot several times. I have no idea how long it really is, but it stands about 2 feet high. Usually, I keep them cut back so they will be bushy. Allow several runners to get really long and keep other runners cut at different length to create a fuller effect. One of the best ties you can get to use with vines such as Pothos is your old nylon stockings. Cut them into rings about 1.5 to 2 inches long (that's across the leg and not down the leg), then pull the section and cut the circle to make a tie. It will stretch and not but into the tender plant.

Its true. Pothos like to be root bound. As a vine, in nature the plant is used to not have much root space. I've found Pothos to grow the best when I forget about them. Water them every two weeks or so. Fertilize very infrequently.

I have a couple of good pothos plants in hanging baskets. The larger of the two is 9' long with about four or five stems that long and the another four of five about six feet long. The other basket has stems (three or four) that are about four feet long.

Indirect light is one of the keys. The other is a regular watering schedule. I also fertilize mine once a month in the spring - fall months when it is growing most actively. I also hang mine outside in an old horse stable I converted into a workshop during the summer months. Again in indirect light.

My SIL has beautiful pothos growing all along her kitchen and living room. She keeps them well watered and also give them diluted tea once in awhile. After brewing some tea, she'll mix the leftover (without the sugar, cream etc) with some water...about 1 part tea to 4 parts water and gives them all a nice drink.

I also do something similar with our leftover coffee. Solution of 1 part coffee to 4 parts water and I give this to my houseplants once a month. They love it. :-)
