I know about the clear nail polish alternative, but are there any substances found around the home which could help remove old nail polish? Like soap, detergent, or even rubbing alcohol?

99% citric acid will remove it quite well. Also, men's British Sterling is faster than nail polish remover. Bleach will also take it off.

Nail polish is extremely strong paint, which is why it needs something as intense and caustic as nail polish remover (acetone, rubbing alcohol, don't know what else is in it) to dissolve. I'm sure acetone or rubbing alcohol alone would work, but might not be as good for your nail.

Not that I'm aware of.

Rubbing alcohol does not remove polish.

i dont think anything else would work as good as nail polish remover. If you use other stuff like water and soap it is very bad for your nails.
