System restore uses about 1 GB of hard drive space, to turn it off go to - right click on MY COMPUTER, left click on PROPERTIES, click on the SYSTEM RESTORE tab and the click on the check box that says Turn off system restore.
A confirmation message will be displayed accept it and click on the OK button. This will take a while as the 1 GB used is cleared and you have more HDD space.
Try deleting mp3 and video files and you can also uninstall programs that are no longer needed.

something is wrong with the system or the question you are asking, if you have only 200 meg out of a 80 gig hdd DEFRAG will NOT run. Defrag will not run when you have less then 15% free space on your hard drive, being that this is still in warranty, take it back, save yourself the hassel and make them give you a product that is good.

Wow that is hardly enough for your virtual memory to run if you're on xp..
You can try to do a virusscan if you want but I doubt you'll get anything done by doing that, except of course to waste some time... =) Anyways after you are done doing what everybody else says, go ahead and reinstall your operating system. If you really really want to fix this problem, then reformat your hard drive and then reinstall xp. Doing that will of course erase everything in your installation partition or if you format, your entire drive will be erased.
Backup any essential files to cd or a flash drive if you have one. You can get a flash drive with a gig of space for about 50 bucks. Very nifty. =) Have fun with this project of yours..

Wipe your Hard Drive, and reinstall the OS. That will get rid of everything, and then start reinstalling the programs that you absolutly NEED. Dont put on junk software. If you need to have extra space, go out and buy a external USB HD, and use that to store all your Word, PowerPoint, Excel, FrontPage, etc. documents (including Music and Videos). That will free up PLENTY of room on your computer. If you just need a little bit of room, go and buy a USB Jump Dirve.

You should try some 3rd party software like OmniDiskSweeper (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/) to help you find the missing data. I suggest NOT deleteing things until you are 100% sure what you are deleteing is not something you need.
The possiblities for this prob is u may be installed some software even if its size is small it will take about 35GB of your hardDisk unless yu register the product. if u did install some program like that just uninstall using the above software

1) How many partitions do you have on your computer?
c drive, d drive, etc.
Check the size and remaining space on each partition.
2) Do you have installation cds/dvds that came with your laptop? Do you have Windows XP? probably, cd/dvd and other application cds, in case you have to format your hard drive and reinstall.
you can mail me for any assistance.

My friend....you may have a virus....viruses often write nothing but junk files on your computer. Do a virus scan...if you don't have software installed to do so....I use www.pandasoftware.com...you can also go to www.symantec.com....they have an online scan as well. Good luck
