Loyalty above all else.
Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that there can be no true friendship without loyalty. There's no point in having a really cool and smart friend you love, trust and get along great with if you're going to let your guard down and confide your secrets in them only to have them stab you in the back and betray your confidences somewhere down the line.
True.

I'll answer with a poem I wrote
You are a friend for
all seasons;
Winter, Spring,Summer,Fall-
you're there when
I call.
You are a friend for
all seasons;
happy, sad-
you're there even
in the bad.
You're a friend for
all seasons;
alone, blue-
there's nothing you
won't do.
You are a friend for
all seasons;
smiles, tears-
soothing my
fears.
You are a friend for
all seasons;
through all friendships
weather-
we do it together.
You are a friend for
all seasons;
a God-send from above-
you are truly loved.

you can have a friend with opposite interests, principles and beliefs. just look for a person who's sincere, true and knows how to respect different kinds of people.
