I'm a junior in college majoring in elementary education. So obviously i love working around kids. I want to know if there are jobs available at hospitals where I can play games with kids in hospitals. Like when the child is in the hospital but well enough to play games such as red light green light, or simon says. I really want to get a job like that so im wondering if it is possible. Please answer!

A great way to break in is to start as a volunteer. Get your foot in the door doing that, then keep your eye's open for opportunities from there.

I work in a multi-physician clinical and hospital system (600+ physicians), and they have a fabulous Child Life department. The responsibilities of the employees is to work with not only the children who are in the regular units, but also the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. They work in conjuction with child psychologists, the M.D.'s, nurses, etc. to make sure the children are happy (as they can be in the hospital), well-adjusted, and entertained. I have first-hand experience with this as my daughter was in the ICU then regular hospital for a month after a car accident 2 years ago. She was 4 at the time and her father died in the accident. The Child Life specialists were instrumental in helping her understand the accident, her father's death, and the procedures that she experienced while hospitalized. They play games, talk, watch movies, bring in animals, just too many things to mention here. Children need this love and stimulation when they're ill or injured and it is a great thing that you would like to do this, they can use you. Contact Human Resources in local hospitals for openings, although it is likely that only the larger ones with Peds ICUs and that type of thing will actually have this type of need. Good luck to you!!!

Hey. I have a MA in Clin. Psych, and let me tell you....there are jobs doing such, but it is usually with children with behavioral and adjustment problems, that are in a residential psychiatric unit. The minimum requirement is a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. However, look into daycares and preschools. You could work as a Teacher's assistant. In that role, you will do most of the activities you mentioned with the children. Best wishes to you in your academic career.

Sounds like a good chance to prototype a portable version of your vision and take it to a hospital for Wee Ones with cancer.
In the stunt business, four of us stunt guys visited three different hospitals like this, spent a whole day there showing the kids videos and bringing games to play with them. The hospital greeted us with open arms every time. Seems a few visits like this on your part would lead to actual contracts and schedules and GROWTH of your very cool idea!
You could end up CEO of divisions of your vision!
Good for you and what you want to do is the ONLY thing in this world that makes sense to me! There is no feeling in this world like the feeling I got when we did our hospital visits! Little people like that are GOD and you know it when your there!
Cheers! I'm proud of you!

I don't know if they would pay you to do that, but, you could get a job in a school somewhere and volunteer your time after school or on the weekends. That would be great and the kids would appreciate it.
