I'm not sure what it's called, but there is this mental disorder where you see a certain body part(legs, nose, eyes, etc) as huge or something and you're afraid to even go outside. Well, I'm not sure, but I think I may have it.

I want a flat stomach. I saw a magazine with 2 pictures of Nicole Richie(1 anorexic, one REALLY anorexic) Well... The kinda anorexic one... I looked at her stomach, and I wished mine looked like that. I even look at super skinny stars and think there stomachs are too big. All of my friends say I'm fine and that my stomach is flat, but even if my ribs show, my stomach still sticks out too much! What is my problem!?

P.S.-Not sure if this is necessary, but I'm 13, 5'3, and 113? pounds.
Thanks!

It's normal for young people to have body image problems. They see celebrities with unrealistic bodies and they think that they should look like that too. 5'3" and 113 lbs at 13 is a good weight. You aren't fat by any standards.
What you may be seeing as belly fat, may be the uterus. If the "bulge" is low on her/your body, it's the reproductive organs, not fat. The female organs are right above the pelvis, and they do tend to be rounded and not flat like a man's stomach. If you suck in your stomach, or lie flat on your back, is it still there?
At 13, you are probably still growing. Your body will change as you grow, so any excess "baby fat" can disappear on it's own.
If you are truly miserable with the way you look, you may need to talk to a psychiatrist about the possibility of body dysmorphic disorder. This is the "problem" that you are referring to. It gives a person a very distorted vision of themselves. What is either normal or fine they see as hideous and ugly. A minor flaw turns into a major one. Many girls that have anorexia or bulimia have also been diagnosed with it. Get yourself checked now before you cause yourself real health problems with an unhealthy lifestyle trying to look "perfect". The perfect body doesn't exist.

One, Nicole Richie is GROSS. I'm happy with my "body image". I look at Nicole and start coughing and screaming. Ew, you totally don't want to be her. 114 pounds is the best weight for your age. Your fine girl, your probably a beautiful person. You have nothing to worry about, I would hate to see you worrying about it. My friend was anorexic and bullemic, it was sick and I was the one who had to deal with her getting back to her weight again. She was less than 100 pounds, she was 13. Plus, your at your growing stage. Don't worry about it, your friends are RIGHT. A flat stomache has nothing to do with how the "stars" get flat stomaches. They work out and eat proper diets. They don't NOT eat, and not excersize. You have to get help from a doctor, or your body will go downhill. I'm very experianced because a friend was exactly like you, it was sickening. Your beautiful.

Sweetie, at 5'3, I've never been 113 pounds, not even at that age. For a long time, I battled with wanting to be smaller, but not Nicole Richie small. Unfortunately, she's sickly looking and you might need to seek help about that. 113 pounds is not bad at all. To me (although I can't actually see you), 113 lbs at 5'3 is small to me. Just do some sit ups until you reach your desired look.

Honestly your weight is fine, so that's really not a concern.

I believe the mental disorder you are referring to is Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I have posted a link to a helpful website below. They have a message board for support, which you may find helpful.

Take care : )

You are a teenager and you are self-concious. Nothing abnormal about that. For your height and weight, I would say you are probably underweight. I think you need to consider talking to someone about this, perhaps a school counselor, before this turns into an eating disorder.

ok sweetie listen....yes that is a mental disorder, and if you feel you have this you should talk to your parents/guardian and tell them how you feel.

however, you are only 13 and have a lot of growing to do yet. you sound like you look fine and you say even your friends think so. please do not stress over how a celebrity looks. i still think that if you continue to think like this you need to talk to your parents/guardian!!

good luck, please do not stress over this. you are so young with much more growing ahead of you.

you need to see a doctor pronto!!! your height and weight are in perfect proportion. you could have the start of an eating disorder. go to a doctor or a psychiatrist before you end up hurting yourself.
