laptop life is not determined by when you plug power in. the battery is effected by how you manage your power. for longer battery life it is best to let your battery fully charge and not plug it in again until it is fully depleted. if you unplug it or plug it in when the battery is at the halfway mark it can build what is called a memory, which means basically you have cut your battery life in half and the charge will only last half as long. as for longevity of your laptop, here are a few key things, dont eat around it, dont smoke around it, keep your operating system up to date, along with your adware, spyware, and antivirus programs, make sure the laptop is well cooled, handle it with care, try not to drop it or leave it where it can be stepped on or kicked, when opening and closing the lcd it is best to open it with two hands one in each corner and lifting equally to help prolong the life of both the hinges and from possible wear and tear on the screen itself. close it in the same manner, and dont slam it shut. most of all be advised, no matter how well you maintain it, sometimes things go bad, when something first goes wrong get it in for repair, if you wait to long, it can start effecting other parts if you wait to long.

A good number of years in computernees is a very short amount of time. Things go obsolete so fast. However, yes, use it off the adapter except when you are "portable" and need to run off of battery power. When the battery is to the point it REALLY needs a charge, go ahead and charge it (lap top off) and if you must, it is ok to "trickle" it when you really need to be using it while also charging the battery, but that will extend the charge time quite a bit. So when you turn it off, continue to charge the battery till it has a full charge. It is not a good idea to be running off the adapter with the battery even in it. Better to have a full charged battery handy when you need it and just run it off the adapter with no battery in it.

technology changes every 6 months...sometimes every 3 months especially with laptops. but to keep it running and healthy for a good long time is just in how you take care of it... simple common sense will keep it alive for a long time or untill you decide to upgrade...
to max battery life keep it plugged in as much as possible, if you unplug it and use it else were don't bother to shut it down...put it to sleep takes a bit more power to turn it on than to hibernate it while traveling from point a to point b and back again if there is enough charge left to do so...

I feel it's better to use my computer on my adapter or docking station. The more the battery is used, the faster it depletes after charging. Using a laptop on an adapter causes no problems, in fact, that's how it's usually meant to be used.

the life span of your laptop would depend on how you take care of the cooling system not the way you charge it. it wouldnt affect the laptop if its plug and your using it. the life span of a laptop is about 2 years.
Note* a cellphone would last longer if you dont turn it off that often. there is no difference if you charge a cellphone on or off.

I keep my adapter plugged into my laptop because it helps keep the screen brighter for me and just in case there's an emergency, my laptop will always be charged no matter what. I think of it this way, the adapater is my key to electricity. =D Good luck with your laptop!

Whether you keep your lap top charged or not will only affect your battery life and not really the health of your entire laptop.
And your battery is something that can be changed just incase it fails.

Running it on battery alone limits the time you can operate the computer. It charges whether its on or off when the ac adapter is connected.
