Is it possible to get on Yahoo news or any other type of news site if you have a worthy story? If so, how would you do this.

The only way to get into Yahoo News or Google News is to use a press release distribution service that gets their news stories picked up by those news sites.
You can opt for the more expensive PR Newswire http://www.prnewswire.com/ or the cheaper PR Web http://www.prweb.com (costs about $80 to get into both Google and Yahoo News)

Yahoo news picks up stories from various papers - you can see the sources when you look at the list of stories.
You might try contacting your local paper to get a story written, or prepare a press release and distribute it to the papers; if it gets picked up, it would have a better chance.
